What was your experience like the first time you installed a vapochill kit

Hey people

Basically I want to buy the Vapochill Extreme Edition II but i would like to know what problems if you had any or even if u didn't, when you first installed your motherboard and CPU into your brand new vapochill kit.

Also anyone with a C2D E6600 or Abit Aw9d-Max that has it under phase, I've only just learnt about how some CPUs don't like being under phase and some can handle it fine.. is the E6600 one of the nice CPUs that like being under phase.

2 of my good Geek friends today tried to convince me its not such a good idea to get it, they both have phase hehe but its not because of the rivalry crap :) its mainly due to the stress involved in getting it up and running, I'm being sly and want to get it on my credit card and not tell the other half.. get it sent to work then blag away.

I have had a brief look for other posts about this but asking questions never is bad.. sometimes :)

oh I'm currently on water that does a nice job at keeping my e6600 at 3.6gigs 1.53v at 41c-47c idle depending on room temps and around 55c max gaming load though I've had 4gigs only windows stable on air ages ago but it was doing 75c id hope for 4gigs at least stable on vapo.

I guess one last thing i need to say is for me building PCs, overclocking and all the other stuff to do with tweaking is what i love to do so its not just something to play with on the side its something far better, I work with PCs for games testing which means its an overdose of PC loving every day.

Cheers peeps

Leon.

Your other half will notice something is different as the compressor and the fans are quite loud. If she uses the pc at all she may wonder why you have to wait so long for it to start up.

Personally I really enjoyed mounting my mach in it's case and all the little bits involved. It took ages though.

I'm having some issues with mine at the moment and I'm thinking was it really worth it over some high end water cooling. I'm also looking at £300 pounds of mods to the unit which is kind of hard to justify for a few mhz. Phase may not give you anything above what watercooling gives you - be prepared for that.

I have not heard of any probs regarding c2d's under phase but certain motherboards can be a pain regardign switching the compressor's on and off (not sure if that affects the vapo's as it does the mach's)

Consider a custom phase unit fromt he start, especially if you were looking at a brand new vapo. They will give you better performance and will probably work out cheaper.

Oh mate, I absoutely loved fitting my Mach2. So fiddly, but once I sorted it, I felt it was a major achievement. I put an FX55 Sandy under mine, and pushed her to 3.655ghz. For me, the £450 I paid for it was some of the best money I'd spent on my computers. I spent 3 months locked in my computer room trying every possible BIOS and overclocking option using it the day after I finally installed it!

LOL regarding your bird. I used to do this all the time, and eventually you just run out of blags. Like Archangel says, noisy and the PC takes longer to boot. Just tell her it'll make the internet faster by having it, or frame rates will improve. Works a treat with my missus! :)

Enjoy the compressor, youll love it. Just out of interest, have you considered a MACH 2GT with Lian Li case? Personally, the Mach 2GT cools slightly better than the Vapochill...

Hey peeps

Thanks for the replies :)

I will look into the Custom vapo systems as time is now on my side so I will do allot more reading.

Yes this I’ve been told by my friends and yes I'm just about ready for it not to improve or even work straight away :( I always expect the worst hehe, but the long last ability of the case is the most attractive thing for me, I won’t have my c2d in ten years but I defo plan on having this case in ten years.

Blagging my g/f has changed now.. I couldn’t bare the thought in the end of trying to keep the payments up on my credit card for like a year and try blag that.. I just kindly asked her if I could maybe get this now and if not now then for my b/day in 4 months lol.. sooner the better because I can get more cash for my watercooling kit and case, she said maybe, let me think about it.. in my books that tends to lean towards a yes.

ArchAnGeL what kind of mods are you looking to get for your setup? I mean you have a full kit right? what costs 300 pounds to ad to it? please tell me more hehe.

Oh and Benktlottie i will look in that the MACH 2GT as well but 530 was my limit or well above anyways so wouldn't the MACH and the Lian Li case cost like around 150 pound more? though yeh it does look sweeeet.

Thanks again for your replies.

Leon.

I bought a second hand mach 2 but lately I have been finding that the temps are not as good as I want - i am mid 20's under full load and 10 at idle (core temps). This may be poor reporting from my motherboard however as even at stock it is not below zero where my previous amd64 was -20 at idle and around zero clocked with a full load.

So I'm a bit concerned about that. I am also sick to death of the mounting mechanism as it's messy and a pain in the backside. I would experiment more if it was easier to remove from the board/chip.

So basically I am looking at getiing:-

A new head and cap tube
regass
tuning
desuperheater coil
modified pipework etc.

which will give me more cooling capacity (especially for quad core) and a much better mounting mechanism.

This is going to cost in the region of £250 and while it will look all good and give me a big e-penis, I may not get any further overclock out of my current system. I don't grudge the cost as it is skilled work and takes some effort.

However, I will be confident my mach is running as well as is possible and I definately have ample cooling.

The second hand mach 2 was a bargain at £150 so even with these mods I am still considerably cheaper than a new vapo/mach 2 and will be a lot cooler.

I did the mount in the v2000 myself and that was also a second hand bargain at £70 but I bough a fair few tools etc to mod it. Half of the water loop was second hand so that came in around the £100 mark

Madness

I only just got used to my watercooling and all that you need to do to keep that happy.

It sounds like you know your stuff m8 and you got a lot to play with :) not the e-p... tho lol.

I've been checking out ebay today to see what they have, they got allot more today then the last few days some of them being custom vapo some are the LS, i need to learn about the individual components and learn whats good and what isent before i go right in and buy a custom one, but am wrong in thinking that there are crap components for vapo? man i got no idea.

Cheers.

Have a look on the vapour phase change forums at XShere

It would be probable easier if you want a custom job to get someone to make if for you

Gray Mole is likely to be doing my mods when i stump up the cash. His reputation and work speak for themselves.

You might want to check this thread or speak to Messiah Khan directly as he has recently had a unit built.

Nice!

I'm now interested in that myself.. but how do I approach him or these people on XS? can u privet message them and if so what do I say, I don’t want to be cheeky by posting a topic asking.. even PM'ing them seems cheeky if they don’t even know me.

I've had a look on XS unless I didn’t look hard enuff I didn’t see anything about how to buy or who to approach.

Hehe I would have sent this as a PM but u cant :( oh and i said to my g/f how this would or could be cheaper than the other case and she seemed happier about that :)

So yes what do I do?

pm gray mole - he's a nice bloke, it's not cheeky.

and if you could mention that Inspector-71 pointed you in his direction that would be great :)
