What watch do you wear?

About 3 and half months into owning the 3861 Speedie and I still love it! Just put it on the Nato yesterday and I think it turns it into a completely different watch. I plan to get a green nato too and likely a brown leather number at some point too.

Excuse the girlie wrists, and also excuse the check and stripe combo :p

Well I've still not heard anything back from Barton Bands yet so I am officially done with them and will not wear their straps on any watch. Back to anything from Watchobsession/Watchgecko from now on.

If anyone wants two free 18mm straps, a hybrid cordura and a canvas both with quick release then let me know and I'll get them posted to you. No cost. The taste has gone now for the brand for me.

On a better note, still can't get enough of the Laco's dial as it catches light, and if I do say so, looks pretty class on the HIrsch natural rubber.

I'd be very aware of this considering the trend on here for receiving things through the letterbox

I've actually found a worthy replacement to the Barton hybrid now, Hirsch do one called the ARNE, it's natural rubber on the underside and sailclotheffect on top, seems like it's actually leather but waterproofed which is fine. Double the price of Barton's but it is Hirsch...

I am somewhat annoyed at how much faff I've put into straps all these years lol, but I've got to know what materials and quality is like with numerous brands I guess. Hirsch gets my vote every time but they aren't cheap sadly.

I had to buy a strap for my Hamilton when I got it because the strap couldn't even fit round my wrist (115/70mm), I couldn't even get it in the last hole like usual.... luckily, because it was grey, I was planning to replace it with a black one anyway but it was a little annoying I couldn't even 'try it' with the original strap lol.

So I trundled off to find a 'long length' strap and found hirsch and have to agree on them being good quality etc, they also seem to be one of the few companies that do longer length straps unless I want to go custom :(

Yeah I do like that they do the short and long lengths, it's only 10mm on each end difference which sounds small but it makes a difference. For me the 110/70-75mm is perfect with a hole either side for wiggle room in seasons. I notice that the Hirsch ARNE I linked earlier only comes in the medium size so not sure how that will fare with sizing. Only one way to find out I guess

I just cannot decide between Grey top colour or black, both look nice...

All my watches currently have a Hirsch on rotation, just the black rubber one on the Laco I want to replace with something that has a textured/patterned top layer like the hybrid, hence the ARNE.

Yeah that 10mm makes a huge difference, in my case I need a long just so I have a bit of a tongue on the strap, just feels weird being on the last hole.

As to colour, I'd say go grey top, iirc you've got a plain black strap already so it likely wouldn't give much difference overall.

Seems logical for sure. Grey has been ordered, hopefully arriving tomorrow ready for a weekend away.

Looks like I'll be soon on my Local Rolex AD client list. In a few days I'll be the proud owner of a Datejust 41mm ref 126334, Oystersteel and white gold with Fluted bezel with a Blue set with diamonds dial and Jubilee braclet. Seemed a good choice for a first time buyer as I probably wouldn't get sold any of the really sort after models. I'm actually kinda financially poor but I'm selling off some of my retro games I own but don't get used. Not only will I have a nice watch but I hear owning a Rolex is better than having money in a bank account.

It can be, but it's by no means a guarantee at all! This is especially on the less desirable models and even more so if you're wearing it as you may damage it in some way.

If you're actually 'financially poor' as you suggest, then don't. If you might need the money soon that's tied up in it, then don't.

Honestly, if you are 'financially poor' it just seems a bit silly to be spending all that money on a Rolex in the hope that you'll make bank from reselling it. I'm pretty sure most of us in this thread follow a similar rule when it comes to watches and that's only buy it if you can afford it. Hell I've got money sitting in the bank right now for a watch but I'm holding off because I don't know how much electric/fuel/food is going to go up in the next year (or longer) and in all honesty as much as I like watches they're less important than electric/fuel/food etc.

Also don't just believe the hype when it comes to Rolex being a way to make money, yes it might be a Rolex but as you've even said yourself it's not one of the popular ones and the hype is driven very much by a select few popular watches within the company portfolio. Don't assume your less popular model will see any gain after you've bought it.

EDIT: forgot to say.... you don't need to buy a Rolex to have a 'nice watch', there are plenty of nice watches at all prices.

Totally agree with the above statements and they’re also becoming unwearable due to the values. I have one, not been worn for ages, tucked in a safe. My preferred AD is loosing their AD status too, so it’s time to get rid soon.

In reality I prefer my Tudor and Omega watches too, 4 watches that I enjoy and all together still don’t reach the value of my one Rolex. Plus I’m less likely to be stabbed for them. My AD and I were talking about a hopeful GMT Batman, but I don’t care anymore, they’re getting uninsurable so what is the point. If one came in, I’d flog it.

My Rolex has risen £2k in value since the conflict started, so sad in reality. If I sold it and got the true value I feel like charity payment for the extra.

The Expedia advert atm rings true too re memories vs material things.
