What watch do you wear?

A flat head precision screwdriver or simply a paperclip depending on what kind of lugs you have.

I found out that the Nomos springbars are thicker than the Tudor ones!

Not looking to be intentionally controversial but does anyone else think Rolex watches (much like corner sofas) are getting a bit chavy? The reason I ask is that the wife wants to buy me a birthday present and mentioned a Rolex… My immediate response was ‘yuck!’… Thoughts?

I'm a fan of very few Rolexes. Same with Breitling.

If you're spending Rolex money then there are much better options in my book.

Not controversial just your opinion, I don't know many chavs who have real Rolex watches but I do know some with corner sofas.

I don't think Chavy is the right word, maybe more cliche?

By the way I'm not having a dig at Rolex wearers, I'd love to have one myself and probably will one day.

Yeah I think you are right... I've never had an expensive watch and if I was to pick what I consider to be a "good" watch I'd go for a Stowa Antea Classic (bought one as a present a while ago and wished it was mine) but obviously it is a couple of price brackets below a Rolex.... But for some reason she insists it 'isn't good enough' and only a Rolex will do.... I guess I am calling my wife a chav but I just dislike the thicko attitude of 'only a rolex is a good watch'.

Dug-up old images of a review I did some time ago :p

What sort of price am I looking at for a Submariner date? Can they be bought new at all?
Anyone? I know nothing about them other than I want one. Preferably in blue however they seem to command a premium over black.

If I get the job news I want then I may pull the trigger soon.

Black versions : Around £4K for a used example with some light scratches and no papers up to £6.4k+ for perfect condition used models.

Blue models look like they cost around £20k used
They appear to have a white gold case which makes the price silly, especially when it looks the same as Stainless Steal.

Think parts of the range have always been. Recent examples would be the Hulk in my eyes.

Same could be said for Ford, chavs love them but if someone gave me an Escort Cosworth, RS Focus or Mustang I wouldnt say no.

Check the full range and see. This doesnt look chav to me :

Though if you are looking for something that will return close to retail in a second hand sale then Rolex is unfortunately one of the few who dont drop like a lead balloon.

I don't believe it is chavvy, but then I am of the thought process that very little is actually chavvy, it's simply the people wear and Internet perceptions which makes things. Almost everything can be chavvy, depends on who's giving the opinion. There's probably people who think t-shirts are chavvy or wearing trainers is chavvy or shopping at tescos is chavvy.

I certainly would not classify Rolex as chav. The majority of their watches are elegant and have timeless appeal. Yes, they are common. But as are all watches now, Omegas, Breitlings, Tags. I assume this is helped by the fact jewellers are offering finance on them. You can have an Omega and pay not much more than a phone contract per month for it.

Common is not synonymous with chav.

Rolex are two things.
They are a luxury brand for those that don't know much about watches. The people that assume they're the best you can get as they've actually heard of Rolex, when in reality, they're far far from that.
They're also a brand with history and are collected by those that love watches.
Rolex cater for the horology collector and the latest tasteless rap artist who wants to wear his net worth on his person.
