What website creating software for a noob

Normally I would say that you should learn the basics using the likes of Notepad++ etc.

However I've recently been introduced to Wordpress and have found it incredibly easy to use. Next step is figuring out how to make templates for it and also tweak the PHP! :D

I quite agree. I'm not an expert coder but I do know what I'm doing most of the time and having tried Dreamweaver, Plone and some other CMS solutions manual coded pages using Notepad++ is the best way I believe.

I've not really used it as I probably could find it quite helpful to me in some respect. I might start playing. :)

I use flickr ;), but I feed my wordpress blog with a pick of what I share on flickr. It's quite a good setup for that sort of thing.

If you are only going to display photos I would look at Gallery2 or Coppermine.

If you are doing sites from scratch look at Dreamweaver (if you have a fat wallet) or something like NVU for the free end of the stick.

The purists will of course say do it all in something like Notepad++ and hand code everthing, which to be honest is the best way :)

You'll do well to find any PHP that needs tweaking in Wordpress.
