I know the core is the R600 as the 8800 is the G80.. But what will the model be?

I can't really imagine an ATI X2800XT... But it does have a certain ring to it I suppose.

Just curious really. :)

And I also can't wait for the G90, I can upgrade to a 9800. :D

Well given their past naming conventions, 9800, X800, X1800, it would seem logical it will be called the X2800. Of course now that AMD have got their mits on them they might have something else up their sleeves.

I hope they entirely re-vamp their naming system, it's a confusing for more than a few people. ATI Radeon X2000 would be a nice starting point, as we already know it will be keeping the brand and product family name (AMD has confirmed this.)

Sounds to much like the X2 series of cpu's and we all know about them. :D

Do they really want a gfx card that sounds like an X2? :p

Well I would rather see a numbering scheme where the number was an actual guide to performance rather than as it is now. Card numbers give no indication to actual performance and when you start looking at the low/mid range cards it's a mine field to what's actually the best card at a set price point unless you do some decent research into it.

Otherwise you just get situations where people are buying crap cards because it's got 256/512MB RAM so "it must be good".

I imagine it will continue as it always has been, and be called something similar to the X2800XT as the top card.

As to there naming convention being confusing, its no worse than the Nvidia situation.....

Yeah thats why i always by the high-end cards, id be lost trying to pick a decend low/middle of the range card with all those names, GS, GT, XT, Pro etc... as said by Jokester above its all a mine field in those ranges.

yeah it'll proberbly be the X2800, X2600 (a likely midrange version of R600, happened every other time with 9600, X1600, X1650) however i doubt there'll be a entry level R600 variant
