I suspect petrol/diesel will be replaced with biofuels or otherwise enginered and carbon offsetted products. This seems to be the only viable way to deal with the home heating issues on a mass scale, so when that happens it'll spill over into transport uses as well.

Petrol and diesel will be here for a very very very long time.
The world is not going to just magically flip to electric.
Electric planes, cranes, ships, tanks, missiles, rockets, going to take some time.
Where the more modern world will simply tax the hell out of diesel and petrol owners to force them to switch to electric. Regardless the lithium battery problems when it reaches end of life.

I’m fairly sure useage of petrol and diesel is still actually increasing despite lots of plug in sales. The increasing number of cars on the road and people buying SUVs over smaller cars is increasing demand despite fuel efficiency gains.

Demand for petrol and diesel has only just started going down in Norway and they have been selling the majority of new cars as BEVs for a long time now.

I think diesel use for agricultural and plant machinery is going to be with us until a synthetic alternative fuel is available with similar performance and price.

Actually, good point. I haven't thought about any of our backup generators. I'll check compatibility.
Had to empty them of red not long back :(

This is obviously still very new tech so everyone's trying to lock down their profits but the chap who did the swap for us told me that all they do is chuck x amount of a certain chemical in the tank to keep the fuel current. I've no idea tbh, but it could be worth looking in to.
