I know they'll be gone in a few years. I just wondered if it will have to be FTTP. I'm thinking of upgrading to FTTP with Jurassic Fibre but it's a bit of palaver with drilling etc. but if it's inevitable I may as well go for it now as wait.

PTSN is being switched off in 2025, so you might as well get switched over now as it’s going to happen. It will all be digital voice after that. Copper services won’t be sold at all once FTTP is available to all.

Will all the phone lines to houses be replaced ?

Nope.
For now there is a huge noise about the PSTN phone lines being switched off but there are providers who offer a SoGEA service. Broadband has always been "dependant" on have a telephone line to operate, SoGEA is effectively the broadband without the phone line element.
SoGEA will be the "inbetween" product as BT turn off the PSTN which will migrate people to data only connections whilst FTTP is fully rolled out.

FWIW SoGEA comes in 40/10, 55/10 and 80/20, it is effectively FTTC without the PSTN element.

Of course, once you upgrade to FTTP, your copper line will be taken down (usually at the same time) however with someone like Jurassic, with them being alt-net the likelihood is BT will never know you have that service so the copper will just be left.

PSTN switch off is not the same thing as the removal of all copper services. If you have FTTC now it doesn't mean you are going to have FTTP by the time the PSTN is turned off, it just means you won't be able to get a dial tone through your landline.

If you currently have a landline phone service then your provider will be in touch before the switch off happens to let you know what their plans are.
