Right, heres the deal! I have a desk in my room but it really is big enough, and i now have a free wall. The wall is approx 12ft long and there are no obstructions.

I would like to build a desk to go the length of the wall, mount the lcd tv on the wall slightly above it, and also incorporate come under desk storage. I was wondering what type of wood to use as i have no idea. What i could use for supports, and also any extra details or features that would be useful.

All help and advice is welcome and appreciated.

Walnut, Alder or Cherry, although I like oak as well, and it's cheaper than the other 3 I mentioned. I prefer Walnut the most though :)

Chipboard will be best.

:D

Yeh, right.

12ft is a long span. Imported oak is very cheap at the moment, and if finished right will look the doggy's dangly's. Depending how deep you want the top, a couple of 80mm legs should do the job for support.

Depends upon the money you have to spend.

Always go with real wood if you can it just looks much better.

Build your frame out of something like Pine or Spruce and then finish off with a nice wood - very much a personal choice.

To do it on the cheap get some wood effect laminated chipboard - its not as nice but its a lot cheaper and as long as you do not go for white its no where near as tacky as it used to be.
