bah, thread starting machine, but i was just reading this thing at work, and it occurred to me that i dont think i've ever seen the word accommodation spelled the same way twice!! everyone messes it up! even me...i can never remember how to spell it.

which leads me to...."what words do you have trouble with? do you notice when people spell things wrong?"

even though it's a spelling thread, can we try and keep it free of grammar naziism? some people are sensitive about their spelling, and they dont need it pointing out...this is supposed to be lighthearted :)

I always have to google "necessary" :o

It's just one word / spelling I can't commit to memory :(

When I was little I had to learn a ryhme to learn to spell beautiful too! :p

Did a project for a large oil company recently and spelt a word on their entire reports wrong.

Put "Motor Sport" instead of "Motor Spirit".

And whenever I see "Shopfitters" I read it as "Shoplifters"!

ooh, i just thought of another - surprise. i always want to leave out the first R. i've looked like an idiot sooo many times with that one. also center/centre...never know which goes where.

Unfortunately yes.. so many people can't spell common words it's amazing: definitely, privilege, sentence (not sentAnce..), deterrent, receive, ridiculous.. the list is endless.

edit - BrenOS read my mind ;)

thanks to writing websites for a living, I always have to correct myself for typing color and center.

and i always spell disappear with 2 s' for some unknown* reason.

*Reason may be known, and could be the fact i'm an uneducated know-nothing smacktard

Definitely

Although, I almost have it cracked. I type finite and then add ly and de.

I sometimes forget random words as well. The other day I couldn't remember how to spell comb. I was coming up with all sorts of weird combinations such as koam, coam and kome.

Protein, always, always have to retype it.

How I remember necessary is someone pointed out it has the word "cess" in it and as a 12 year old, "cess" as in "pit" is a great word.

Never eat cake eat salad sandwiches and remain young. :D

But that would mean remembering something... My memory isn't that great at the best of times, I can't even remember how old my gf is.

Dependent is another one... dependant with an 'a' is a word, but it means something different to dependent with an 'e' .. something which most people seem unaware of.

not to mention that NOBODY seems to know the difference between effect and affect!
