What would it cost to build something like this?

Purely hypothetical (babe would you like a glass of wine? ;))

I think this looks absolutely awesome and I want one. Patrols are tough cars so can take a bit of a beating and are fairly cheap to buy. Thing is, all the ones for sale are dagdags, so it'd more than likely involve an engine swap. An engine would cost about £1.5k, but this is where my engine knowledge is going to be exposed. What sort of turbo would I be looking at, and what sort of ancillaries? Would a standard RB25DET's internals handle 600bhp-ish? Obviously I don't know very much about this kind of thing but I suppose I have to learn somehow and what better project to learn on than an off-road hooning machine on a relatively low budget?

This is my inspiration:

(I genuinely would like to build something like this, not for a while but in the future more than likely).

When you're doing such a big swap there's so much to think about, what gearbox will you use? What differential(s), will the half shafts take the load and need to be uprated, bigger brakes and then there's the usual engine stuff of can the OEM ecu be re-used or do you go standalone..

How are your fabrication skills? with swaps of that ilk you'll more than likely need to fab up your own headers and exhaust system along with the engine and transmission mounts i'd have thought.

Standard RB25 won't take 600bhp, thats JZ territory. You'd need pistons, rods, cams, turbo, ecu, etc

We supplied the engines to those guys, lots of fun!

EDIT/ Seems not those guys, we supplied 3 engines to customers in Poland or Austria I think it was to go in Patrols.

Depends entirely if it is a parts bin bolt up job or requires custom fabrication. If you can use off the shelf parts for the engine swap then it will be reasonable. If it requires major fabrication then it will cost a lot.

Seems a quick google shows that generation of patrol came with the RB30 so I guess it shouldn't be that hard to do with a donor car.

Impressive performance.

But much disappoint! :(

I would want my monster truck to sound more like a dodge charger than an F1 racing car.

500CI supercharged V8! Oh yess! :D

:D :D :D
