Hi,

Early on in the year a built a new machine....

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/time-for-a-new-gaming-pc-advice-needed.18872399/

It's much better faster than before but I've been having some lag problems as expalined in the following thread....

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/powercolor-rx-5700-xt-issues.18886724/#post-33726682

My conclusion is that I should upgrade my monitor and buy a better case with improved cooling. Just wondering whether these would be the best upgrades and why ?

My case gets quite hot at times (more so with all this warm weather) although the GPU and CPU temps seem stable. Could a lot of these issues be from other components getting too hot as well ?

I seem to struggle a bit with older games like AC Syndicate, AC Origins and JC 3. Which I assumed would run well with my current system ? Or some games are just laggy anyway ?

As well as lowering the voltage (see prevoius thread) I've also tried overclocking the Mem Clock a bit (10-20 %) on the GPU. Seems to help slightly but I really don't want to get into overclocking....

What helped a lot On AC Origins was limiting FPS to 90 (only have a 60 HZ refresh Rate). Although you can't do this on all games....

Thanks

Do you have the games installed on the nvme?

Most are stored on the Barracuda (all of those mentioned and it's quite full). With only a few on the nvme

Have you got the case fans set to maximum, are the dust filters clean ?

Two Case fans (Front Inlet + top Outlet) are set at max with the Fan controller. The other rear outlet isn't (max of two fans can be connected to the controller)

There is only one dust filter (covering the fan) is at the front and it is really hard to remove dust from (the filter is glued onto the frame I think). One of the two clips is broken so doesn't click into place like it used to. However I have the clip so will glue it back in place.

Is there a way of increasing the fan speed via the Bios or using software of any kind ?

Thanks

You should be able to increase the rear fan speed if it's connected to your motherboard via the bios.

Is the hard drive cage at the front restricting airflow?

I'm not sure The Bluray and HDD are high up so there is plenty of airspace below to flow through the cage. I could remove the drive trays though ? I can't remove the filters infront of the drive bays they are fixed....

A lot of people have taken the filters out on that case.you could reverse the the rear case fan and make it an intake.

I only have the rear fan connected to the MB the others are connected to the Fan Controller so I can't monitor them. Would it be best to connect them all to the MB ? It might mean setting up different profile for fan RPM for certain temps. Seems like trial and error to get it right ? I've heard Speedfan is a good tool but even more complicated.

That might be a good idea. Most of the heat seems to be at the top of the case.

Do the games running off the nvme lag?.

Not so bad. The Barracuda is getting on a bit. Might be worth moving one of the games across and see how I get on.....

Thanks

Moved Syndicate and Origins to the nvme. Slight improvement though not astonishing. I think a lot of the cooling issues were due to the hot weather. I'm guessing that even the best machines struggle with cooling in a small room in the summer ?
