What would protect london in the event of a...

I reckon they'll use the pigeons, feed each one a small amount of explosives and combined they could take out the whole damn city!

Keep your eye on them

I'd be a lot more worried about being doused in acid, randomly shot or stabbed, being run down by a truck of peace than a light aircraft hitting a building.

These terrorist attacks are quite amateur though. You'd get a lot more casualties just letting off a briefcase full of ricin on the subway. A couple of them dressed smart and co-ordinating attacks would be far more devastating in terms of casualties

Yea the place has turned in to a bit of a ****hole. Gun crime is massively up just this year I heard.

But don't forget the moped "gangs" lol. Which seem to have free reign to do as they like.

Carpet bomb Southwark and Lambeth. Steamroll Tower Hamlets, Hammersmith, Fulham, Dagenham, and Barking.

Pour concrete over the whole lot, and start again from scratch.

It sounds ridiculous but raising the age to 17 and requiring something other than a CBT to get on the road with an L plate would help.

It is so popular to get a moped among youths because they are cheap, easy to get and are fashionable as you only have to be 16 and go through a CBT to take them on the road. I see no reason why children need a moped at 16 and plenty of reasons to make the requirements for driving one tougher. I am not claiming that another year of maturity will stop these knobs from driving round like idiots and committing crimes. I will claim that requiring 10 hours of instructor lessons, a basic theory test as well as be the same as driving age before you can go on the road on an L plate by yourself, will make mopeds less common place among delinquents and therefore reduce moped related crime.

Will they just switch to other crime? Probably.

Light aircraft frequently stray over London, infringing airspace and restricted areas. Typically the pilot is lost. Apart from significant disruption to flights in the airspace and at airports, nothing else happens unless it’s absolutely apparent that there is malicious intent. The first anyone would know about it would be seconds before collision. Unless of course there was prior intelligence.

The answer is nothing.

That and the density of air traffic means you'd want to be 110% sure you were hitting the right target if you did have a chance to intercept it.

Still think we are um winging it far too much though without enough preparation for extremes.

All major cities are going like that. There have been a spate of shootings in Merseyside too. I live about 15 miles from Liverpool but we are seeing it creep into our town and have had a big rise in stabbings, some becoming fatal.

Sometimes I think "terrorism" is a convenient distraction. I'm far more concerned about my friends and family going out for dinner in the evening and not returning home because some hoodlum has decided to stick a blade into them.

It's getting to the point that most of us know someone who has been involved in knife crime. It's not something that just happened to someone else, it's affecting all of us directly now. If it was up to me I'd have snatch Land Rovers roll up and just disappear some of thugs.

How will changing the age of being legally allowed to ride or making a CBT tougher in any way deter someone who is prepared to rob, knife, spray someone with acid, speed, crash into pedestrians and ignore every traffic law etc.?

Johnny Robber isnt using his stolen rolex to fund next years insurance, tax and servicing and looking forward to next years no claims discount kicking in? :)

They'll carry on nicking mopeds like they always have done. All that will do is reduce the number of legitimate riders as it will be harder to get on two wheels. :(

If someone is prepared to commit a crime, then it wont stop them as i said. It would reduce moped related crime because not every 16 year old knob will have one. Groups of youths driving round like knobs? pull them over and check their minimal requirements, if they don't meet them then confiscate the bike and fine them. It will generally be less fashionable to have one if not every 16 year old can get one and drive it. As i said, it probably wont reduce crime overall but it will dampen moped related crime. Also the 10 hour course would be for the sake of safety, rather than a crime preventative measure.

So if there’s a knife wielding kid on a moped on a treadmill, will he be able to delivery the letter post?

If it did happen, they would find a perfectly preserved passport at the scene linking it to some Islamist group and wage war in another country.

Perhaps we need to be tougher on how we link terrorism acts to groups.

From now on if a terrorist group wants to claim they are responsible for an act we will need written notice at least a few weeks ahead of the event explaining where it will be and by which organisation. If there's one thing the government can do well it is confusing people with paperwork :p

But also normal people are carrying knives again, to defend themselves against thugs, because no one believes the police can keep them safe.

I'd be temped as well. If attacked just stick them and leave them there.

The idea that carrying a knife will protect you against thugs is ridiculous. If anything you're more likely to pull the damn thing, end up in a struggle, and get stuck with it because you'll have been surprised by the attack, while the thug was already in the right mindset for a confrontation.
That idea will just lead to more people bleeding on the streets.
