What would you class as Full Service History?

They do if they're traceable and verifiable. Any reputable, well organised garage should be able to tell you if a particular car was in for a service when the stamp said it was.
maybe the last stamp but what about the 5-6 stamps before that? imprezas should be serviced twice as often as your average car, if they have skipped a few in between then they would never know.

Interesting thread - I'm about to sell my Type-R and kept all the invoices and paperwork (services, MOTs, repairs) since I bought it a few years ago and wondered if I should keep them / pass them onto the next buyer!

The RR I bought last week from a Stratstone dealership only came with service stamps, but I'll be doing the same and keeping any invoices/paperwork I acquire through ownership.

I'd definitely advise passing them on to the next owner! I would only ever consider a car like a Type-R etc with invoices etc to prove whats been done and when.

Unfortunately as this WRX doesn't have any proof of oil changes, I've decided to give it a miss for now. The guy advised of when it would have had them done (according to the stamps in the book), but they were too far apart. I'd expect every 3 to 4 thousand miles with a car like the Impreza. My hunt continues!

I have been looking at a few cars recently.
None of them have any receipts of work carried out, nothing. Only the little booklet with some stamps. Nothing to say what services were carried out on each stamp.

I asked why and they said people dont care for that paperwork... And my response was simple. If it doesnt say what was done and when i dont want the car.
Passed up a Very nice looking 175, simply because it was last serviced by the stamp in 2013. done 30k miles since... The Dealer said the old owner serviced it himself, and i asked for the paperwork to back this up. They didnt have it.

I have serviced my 172 myself 2 times since i bought it. and will service it again this weekend, all written in the book with receipts.

When I sold my R34 I had 2 A4 box folders full of receipts, from the original Japanese Auction paperwork to every single thing the car had ever had replaced, even down to Halfords receipts for wipers/bulbs etc.

Other than the <£1 cost of the two folders it costs nothing and I think it gives a potential buyer a much better feel for the car when they can see every bit of history.

My previous RS6 came with a whole bunch of history which helped out when deciding what needed to be replaced due to age where as my latest RS6 had nothing but the service book stamps. I ended up getting in contact with the previous owner who said he'd given the garage a lot of reciepts when he part-ex'd the car so it looks liked they'd binned them if what he said is true.

I had a friend purchased a car without a full history and make a fake stamp to fill in the gaps.

I want to see proof of receipts (or dealer printout) or as far as I am concerned its not full history.

That will be true. I gave my Audi dealership a massive wallet full of documents, invoices, receipts etc for my A6. The guy who bought it (who worked at the dealership no less) never ended up receiving the wallet of stuff!

I lost the service book on mine. It's a little annoying as I do service it yearly, but it's a car I'm going to have till it dies so I'm not bothered about losing resale value.

Your friends with someone that's dodgy. IMO I'd kinda assume you are somewhat dodgy. Dodgy people tend to be afraid of themselves getting conned as they do dodgy stuff.

This is why you have the unreasonable expectation that a stamped up book is not full service history even though some phonecalls can confirm.

Unless it's an old clunker, I've always looked for proof in addition to the service book, and thus far it's resulted in cars that have additional receipts and invoices that I buy, as alluded to by eatcustard, it's all too easy to have a book full of fake stamps, easy enough to check on a newer car but harder the older the vehicle.

My old 528i had arch files full of every service and the parts used, as does my 530i, rarer to find cars with such detail but IMO it indicates previous owners who cared or thought more of ownership of the car in question.

The condition should match the age and mileage, ive seen far too many cars with a stamped book FSH that clearly don't look well looked after to make me wary of just a stamped book.
