Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some opinions on how you would have the following drives configured....
128gb SSD
2TB WD ECO Green
2TB WD unknown

I am looking to add another 2TB drive and another SSD at some point in the future but not yet so any expandability could be taken into account.

I mainly use the computer for Photo editing however i will also be running a few virtual machines from time to time.

My thinking is:
128gb SSD - OS and Adobe software
2TB WD Unknown - Photos and other software
2TB WD Green - Backup of other WD and VMs?

I find VMs on consumer machines have appalling disk performance..... <20MB/s on a magnetic disk....so i would buy a big enough ssd for key disks for VMs.

Don't bother buying SSDs, just get some WD Blacks or other high-speed drives (other than Seagate!)

If you are getting less than 20MB/s on a 120-150MB/s hard drive then you clearly have configuration issues.

What is the 2TB WD Unknown? Download Crystaldiskinfo and google the model number.

It just had WD on the label. I'll have a look tonight and see if i can find some info on it. The reason i was looking at SSDs is that there is only 3x 3.56 inch bays and 2x 2.5 inch bays in my case.

VHD performance makes a slow disk look dead sometimes :)

Have you installed the VM Tools or whatever it is on the virtual machine itself?
I'm not familiar with VMWare as I use XenServer, but there's XS-Tools that you install on the virtual machine and it improves hardware performance a bit.
