What would you do if you were Chancellor?

No, the tories are using the shock of the global economic crisis as an excuse to destroy the welfare state, make the rich richer and the poor poorer. At least Labour are just incompetant meddling idiots rather than indisious machiavellian schemers.

Oh, and it was a labour government that dug the economy out of the last global slump (post WW2), they did it by increasing spending, not cutting it.

Ok blame the tories for trying to sort out Labours mess, sounds pretty typical.

They tried to spend their way out of this one and it hasn't worked, all they have done is saddle us with more debt.

The world is a very different place to post WW2, now people expect a lot if they cannot find work, back then you NEEDED to work.

IMO by far the biggest issue we have is how long labour managed to cling onto power. Thats almost definately a reaction to how long the tories were in before them though. Both our main political parties go too far to one extreme when in power for too long. TBH even though I think Labour are useless the country needs them every so often to address some issues, we just cannot afford them for more than a term once every two or three parliaments.

I decided to do what no politicians would do and reduced the deficit by 633 billion pounds, Do I win? :p

EDIT: I cut everything by the maximum amount, how did you get 635 billion?

Tax religion at 90%
Stop benefits to blonde haired men (they look gay to me) :p
Tax all men who drive MX5s at 75%
Tax all people who drive Audis and BMWs at 99.9%
Married people get a tax rebate
Benefit wasters get food vouchers, and little money.

Do I get the job?

had a look at this.... WHY does the deficit NEED to be reduced by 80bn?? why not 40bn etc and take twice as long? I'd stop all benefits to the lazy ********* who KNOW they're better off never getting a job and who never have/never will, why can't they only claim dole if for example they do 20 hours a week sweeping streets/cutting grass...

Deficit...
It is still money we spend above what we earn, if you only reduce by half, then you are still borrowing, thus still accuring debt, and building up interest payments which if following on labour's old policies will have our debt repayment payments costing more than the NHS within 10 years.

We need to get back to fiscal even, or preferally back in the black, so we can payoff the national debt, and actually spend money we own in future.

I would like to add the following options :

Sterilisation for the long term unemployed, ie stop the breeding cycle of the **** bags
Whilst not having an immediate effect it should help to reduce the long term growth of the "I dont want to work" sector

Add a new housing tax payable on asset gains on property. Ie try to stimulate a more sensible property market by encouraging the whole market not to spiral upwards.

Bring back the window tax, it was by far my favourite tax ever ;)
