What would you do in this situation?

Leave it covered outside, what else can you do? If your neighbour isn't in when his presumably important delivery arrives thats not your problem.

Its not medical supplies is it? Because they usually have dry ice inside that should last for several hours.

Hindsight and all that - I get on quite well with all our neighbours and we have all taken parcels in for each other. But if something required "care", so a package that needed anything else other than chucking on the stairs before the neighbour came around to collect it, I'm afraid I wouldn't have accepted it.

He's accepted responsibility for the item so he should take reasonable care that it doesn't perish.

I know the law because I seen it on Judge Judy!

Wouldn't worry, if you hadn't accepted it then it would likely spend even more time out the fridge. Probably full of dry ice anyway.

i'd open it, pop what needs keeping cool in the fridge and leave the rest out.

Explain that to the neighbour and I can't imagine anyone being funny about it.

Open it, stick it in the fridge. Could be a vital internal organ your neighbour has ordered for his mother. Just don't mix it up with the other fresh meat and let your other half decide to cook it!

If it requires refrigeration, I wouldn't have accepted delivery in the first place. I always insist, often to the driver's irritation, on inspecting parcels before signing, whether for me or a neighbour. If it's damaged in transit, I want to know that before signing. Given that you have accepted it, can you contact the neighbour (mobile number)? If so, do so and dump the problem on him or her.

If not, all you can do is what you have done, and leave it in the coldest part of the house, and stick a large notice on your neighbours door saying your have a parcel requiring refrigeration for him, please collect ASAP.

I would just stick it in the hallway waiting for the nextdoor to collect it, not your problem if whats ever inside goes bad.
