Been messing with this picture for the past hour or so, and I just can't get anywhere with it. Nothing I do will enhance it, without it looking over-the-top unrealistic.

Please, take it and do something with it, but you please explain what you've done? I've got piles of magazines but none of the tutorials seem applicable. I dont seem to be getting anywhere learning photoshop :(

They all look awesome guys. Alex, you've reduced the depth of field? i had no idea you could do that in PS. I'm going to look it up.

How did you get to that dude?
Opened in LR, played with Tone curves, HSL colours, sharpening and some vignettes. Then opened in PS CS3 and used burn tool to darken the sky using random clicks, then dodged some areas to lighten the vignettes so it didn't look to uniformed.

In PS the image doesn't look as dark as the resulting hosted .jpg tho.

Generally speaking, i wouldn't mess with the DOF after the photo, same as cloning out large objects/areas of a photo, its just wrong. But if its done right, and you stick to the laws of DOF you can get away with it. ( not that i have too as i get the dof how i want it when i take the photo :p )

But i felt a lower DOF, helped make the subject pop from the background. Basically all i did apart from that was adjust contrast, levels, highlights, RGB and sharpness.

Easy enough in PS. I personally select the area i want kept sharp using Quick wand and a reasonable sized soft brush, invert this selection, then apply \filter - blur - gaussian blur\ (i used 2 pixel in the example below):

Heres my effort :)

Not as good as some of you guys, but I'm tired and didn't put enough effort in :p

You love it :p

I just don't want to ever come across as being "higher" than anyone else on this forum, be it in photography & video or not. I like this forum, I think this particular sub forum is great! You see good hard working people continuing to improve all the time! :)

I do ask if I ever come across as "higher" than anyone else (when I'm just a slightly abnormal human being :p) please tell me! :)
