What would you do with this?

Jesus guys these are all brililant.

So what i've learned:

Depth of field for when you have a subject with a busy background. 99% of the time in crease the aperture on the camera during the shoot rather than add this in post prod.

Burn Tool: Good for rubbish Welsh skies.

Contrast: Practive more.

Selective colouring is quite dramatic, i like that. The pink jacket is very strong so toning it down, but still keeping it the main centre focus, is a nice touch.

You guys rock. Seriously this is my favourite photography forum because everyone is so helpful.

Right, i'm going to go wash the brown off my nose, and see if I can make something with this photo now. I wish i still had the RAW :(

Hard to do much with that sky so went for a square image instead.

Mine isn't as arty as the others, but here it is anyway!

After checking the levels, I adjusted the contrast slider, then had a fiddle with the shadows and highlights until I got what I liked. Then selected the sky with the magnetic lassoo tool, and increased shadows a bit more, and then cloned out the burnt out highlight.

Finally, decreased the saturation a bit.

I'm not an advanced user!! :)

EDIT: It would appear that flickr has done its usual over sharpening of hosted pictures, so the sky doesn't look like it does on my monitor! Apologies for that!

Nice thanks guys. I'm still messing about with it. I'll post one when i'm happy.

How would you say this shot was technically? What could i improve as i'm taking the shot? Is she position nicely? too much sky? lower the exposure?

Position and stuff is fine, it's a nice shot...just needs work in the post processing :)

Upping the contrast and lowering the exposure a tad brings a lot out in pictures :) (well, most :p)

Can you break down what you did here then mate please?

Ok, off the top of my head.

I lowered the exposure, upped the contrast, increased the black point a smidge, lowered the saturation and increased the vibrancy, upped the highlights and finally then I lowered the red and pink levels then I exported it into photoshop...

Then I duplicated the layer, removed all the saturation then used the eraser so the coloured layer showed through. Increased contrast on the B&W layer, I also burned the sea on the coloured layer to make it a darker, deeper, richer blue. Added vignetting and voila.

I think that's everything :p

That Sky does nothing for that image..Crop it out like "teaboy5" did..looks far better that way.
