i am going to america next month and i will be buying a few components.

one of these are processors, the processor i am going to buy is a:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300 - Retail

for $166, this is off newegg (i dont think this is a competitor as its an american company and only ships to USA)

So basically i just want to know should i buy it from here or should i wait till the price cut in june. its £112 now, so how much do you think it will go down by?

Why would you buy an E6300 at that price?

It has been replaced by the E6320 with double the cache so it is an end of line part so don't expect much in the way of price changes.

If you really want a CPU with 2MB of cache then buy a new, faster E4400 over here for pretty much the same price or an E4300 at the same clock speed for less.

I'd say spend the extra $1 and get the E6320 from Newegg for $167 :)

blatently havent been much attention!

new chips and what not!!!

if i get this chip, im hoping its going to be relatively easy to overclock, to about 2.4Ghz? (i havent ever overclocked before. actually this will be my first build!)

I don't know if you're aware, but you will be liable for customs taking it back into the UK, as far as I'm aware.

I recently had an Opteron 185 sent over by UPS, and no customs charge was made.

I don't know what the %age chance of you having to pay customs on it is - I'd expect very small. But it's something to bear in mind.

Also, if it's a dud you'll have a hell of a time replacing it.

85 quid (after exchange) compared to 112 probably wouldn't be enough for me to buy it in the US, but it's getting on for it, 27 quid is the difference.

most core 2's get to about 3GHz with little or no voltage increase

if you're bringing a processor back with you in your luggage you should be able to escape customs charges by saying you bought it as a gift for someone else - although i wouldn't think the chances of being questioned about it at all are that high. just play nice and put your hands in the air when they ask

One CPU would not be an issue as it would be below the limit allowed for bringing back stuff you buy overseas.

Several items though would put you over the limit as it is about £140 from memory.

Risk of being caught low but we can't advise you to do something that is not legal.

im buying a processor memory and gfx card from there, i doubt i will declare them.

they are small so should be able to get away with it.
