I am after a bit more on the gfx front, i currently have a 8800GT and want to upgrade. What would you do, either buy another 8800GT for SLI ( but this would require a new mobo as i have a p35 board) or get two 3870xt`s in crossfire or a 3870x2. Or the other option is wait for the 9800's.

I play TF2 @ 1600x1050, as well as other fps but that is the main game and i would like to be able to have evrything on full i.e aa

Cheers

You wouldn't see a huge performance increase going 3870 Crossfire or 3870X2, I went from an 8800GTX to a 3878X2 myself recently and it's pretty much the same. If I were you I'd wait for the 9800GX2.

Wait for HD4xxx or the next generation of nvidia cards, NOT the 9xxx series as its basically very similar to 8xxx series!

No single card on the market completely blows the 8800GT in performance anyway right now. You might be better off getting a better cooler and overclocking the GT.

I would stick with the GT no point in a upgrade at this point if you ask me.GT should own TF2 on most settings it should not push it to hard.GX2 is going to be $$$$ so leave that alone unless your a 3dmark freak or got money to burn.

But the 9800GX2 is basically two 8800GTs on one board, which is ideal for him as he can't SLI.

I know, but SLi is anything but ideal really... For the extra cost of buying the card he wouldnt really enjoy that great of a performance increase! Isn't the use of SLi/Xfire highlighted at resolutions of over 1920x1200 with AA/AF anyway?

Anyway his money his choice! I would wait personally.

It's true SLI doesn't scale as well as Crossfire but if what we've seen so far is to be believed then the 9800GTX really does perform on the level of two 8800GT or 8800GTS cards without the need for an nForce chipset.

No. SLI and Crossfire work very well even at "reasonably large" resolutions like 1600x1200.
