I didn't know they swallowed it back up if left so I probably would have taken it and then consulted OcUK on the possibility of it being returned to his account if i went into the correct branch and told them about it

Leave it; I'm too chicken (or rather, I know better) to steal, especially as I have no idea what consequences could entail. Even if you took it to give to the person who withdrew it, it would still look like you stole it from the CCTV's point-of-view, so it's probably just safer under all circumstances to leave it.

I would have left it there. Even if no one was looking, there is usually a camera overlooking an ATM.

I would have been highly tempted to take it, but would have left it in the end. But knowing me, by the time I'd made a decision, the machine would have eaten it anyway

I voted to leave it there but only because the cash machine would likely have some form of CCTC built-in, so I'd just be bang-to-rights when the old-bill comes knocking!
