What would you do?

I've got myself a tasty display :)

HP 24" IPS jobby. So one consideration is that if I went to an iMac I would be running a dual IPS setup :)

Not sure if there are any adaptors out yet but the new iMacs have dropped the display port and it's now twin thunder bolt for external video connectivity. But yes dual IPS would be VERY cool.

Sell your current Mac Pro, buy a SB iMac (If you're insistent on sticking with Apple), keep the HP display (will be better for your photo work) and buy a good 4 drive NAS to throw your current Mac Pro storage into. I don't know how much your current MP is worth and how much that would cost to switch, but I doubt it's more than selling and buying a new Mac Pro.

Ok guys been crunching some numbers.

21.7" iMac 2.8ghz i7
8gb ram
SSD + Internal hard drive
decent nas.
Applecare + a few other goodies (remote, thunderbolt cable, couple of converters)

Initial outlay - £2100ish

Mac Pro - Not sure on spec as the new SB models haven't been released yet but I think it's safe to say we are talking in the £2500-£3000 region (potentially less depending on what a base spec one will be)

I'm confident I can get £1000-£1200 for my machine - Been looking at second hand ones around my spec/age and this appears to be the rough price.

So basically I'm looking at potentially a £1000 - £2000 outlay depending on the specs and price of the Mac Pros.

It's affordable.

To be continued... :)
