What would you do?

Hi all
Hope you're all well.

I asking for a bit of advice if possible as I've been in a situation that I never have before and some advice or insight would be helpful right now.

I went in for a filling to my private dentist, on 30th July...

First, contact the surgery and complain. You may want to get some advice on what, and what not, to include in your complaint.

Write to the General Dental Council and complain to them, too. That should be done after you have a response from the dentist.

Also, write to the Care Quality Council. Dentists in England are required to register with them and they can inspect the dentist and may take action. You can do that at any point- it doesn't have to be subsequent to a complaint to the dentist.

You can check previous inspection reports for the dentist at the CQC site- and that might give you some useful background for any complaint you make. The inspection reports are here

If the dentist offers NHS services, you can also write to your local NHS Trust to complain. You can follow that up with a formal complaint to the Public Sector Ombudsman- but only after a complaint to the Health Board. The Ombudsman can fine and direct the dentist to take action.

Your final step is legal action. You'll need to either show negligence or a failure to treat your complaint reasonably.

Good luck. It sounds like a horrific experience, and I wouldn't want another person to suffer that.

and just to add there is no such thing as No Win No fee anymore but what the Solicitor will do is apply for a Notice of Funding which is a type of insurance.
It's a way to still do No Win No fee but without saying it.
