At the moment I'm currently in the process of buying either:

Computer parts

or

A macbook 13" (white) on e-bay.

I did try to get myself a MBP 13, but none are going for around £400 and that's all I have right now, >.>

So I've been trying to find a Macbook 13" with DDR3 ram (because i've got 8gbs in my mac mini here and it's just hard to find one with that even in my price range, it's stupid.

The computer parts i'm getting are as follows:

Cooler Master HAF X with Coolermaster GX 750W PSU
Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard
Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB)
Razer Sphex Gaming Desktop Mouse Pad

So what do you think? should i keep on searching and maybe buy a Macbook? or is the white macbook just pointless getting? should I go for the hardware update and get that?

I want to buy one or the other.

What are your thoughts guys?

If you're a gamer then I would say get the PC updates.
I'm biased against macs so i would say that PC upgrades anyway.

Completely depends what you use the computer for but as Cleeecooo says if your a gamer the pc would be better.

Would this be worth purchasing or not?

It's only going to cost me anywhere from £200-£250, so thoughts?

Downside is the fact that it is infact 06/07 is it? so yeah?

thoughts?

edit: nevermind.

For your budget the Dell Outlet is probably a better alternative if you don't use Mac OS specific apps and just need something portable. Check around 3:15pm weekdays and there's usually some great bargains.

I would say get a MacBook, it'll be way more useful at Uni. Besides, those parts you listed hardly seem an 'upgrade' anyway - nothing to boost performance, at least.

I say pickup a 2009/2010 Mac Mini and use it with, I presume you have a monitor already? Does it have multiple inputs?

Yeah the upgrades that i'm getting are mainly aesthetics upgrades, the ram wont do much to be honest.

I've already got a Mac mini, so that's out of the question really, i'd want something portable, i want to try and win this for uni purposes, but bidding on e-bay is pathetic, the amount of snipers is unreal.

With the budget you have I'd look for a black MacBook, still pretty capable machines that are upgradeable, oh and relatively exclusive :D

I've got 2 bids coming up and they're for the White macbooks, one has: 3gb/160gb/2.1ghz but i don't really want that one.

the other is; 2.13/4gb/250gb which i do want a little bit more.

the third one (which isnt over for 2 days sadly) is: 2.0ghz/500gb/4gb so thats the one i'd like, but i'd gladly settle for number 2, if not, i'll go for a black mb. >:

A seller refurbished laptop, which states no returns accepted, with all the legitimacy of eBay behind it? Hell no.

Doesn't cost £20 to ship it either.

I have managed to pick-up a 13" unibody Macbook.
2.0ghz/2gbddr3/320gb hdd/with lion, but meh, i'm regretting it a little now, i think in the long run, i'd rather have the computer parts, i least i know it's coming from a legit company then and not 'ebay'

You're getting a lot of laptop for your money though, and it will probably prove it's worth over the course of a degree than a few computer bits.

That's a good price for what is essentially a Pro case. Keep in mind the HDD and RAM are user replaceable and it'll keep it's value a lot more than a generic PC laptop.
