what would you recommend? amd or nvidia?

I have been with Ati for years, and the drivers has been fine for me, no probs at all. I think you get more probs having 2 or more cards, but If you have 1 card in your system you shouldnt have any probs.

The last time I had a nvidia card was in the amd fx55 cpu days, I had 2 card in sli, cant remember what cards but I had endless of problems. about 1yr later I changed to a single Ati card and it was bliss, all the problems disappeared and I have never had a nvidia card since then.

I own a 780 and have no issues with it. It handles everything I throw at it without any complaints
Will be building my missus a PC soon and I'll go AMD.

Performance and value make this decision for me and with free RAM its an easy decision

let's break it down shall we :D
the driver issue isn't true anymore, since 2013 AMD has great drivers.
build quality, temps, noise, since you are buying costum cards it's not an issue, if you can get the Sapphire Vaporx R9 290 would be better in my opinion.
performance per dollar AMD holds the crown.
Cards features, Nvidia doesnt have any exclusive feature worth mentioning other than Nvidia physx
AMD eyefinity better than Nvidia sourround
3D stereo both have it, and no one cares about it
Nvidia had shadowplay, now AMD got Raptr with VCE, same thing, recording streaming etc
AMD has Mantle & TrueAudio exclusive features.
features wise AMD, looks more interesting in my opinion.

There are no hard and fast "Nvidia v AMD" rules - it's very much like asking for pros and cons of "Mercedes v BMW" or "Ford v Vauxhall".

The days of one companies drivers being better than the other are VERY long gone - I've not had this situation in at least 4 years so don't worry about this kind of out of date hearsay.

Rather than look at the manufacturer of the card, you're much better off looking at your budget and what you use the card for. If I was looking for a card at £300 for mainly Battlefield 4, I'd get a 290/290X as this will perform better. If I was looking at the same price and mainly played COD or Batman, then I'd get a 780 as this will perform better. If I had £100 to spend and played a variety of games, then I'd get the AMD R9 270, but if you're looking to upgrade an off-the-shelf system for this price, you'd be better off with an Nvidia 750ti as it's easier on the PSU so you're less likely to need up upgrade this too.

If you want the absolute best, then get the 780ti. If you'd prefer to do something else with the £100ish saving, then get the 290X. Both are awesome cards and will do you proud for many years at 1080p or even 1440p. What's the rest of your PC spec and budget? Just want to make sure you're not saddling a £400 GPU with a £50 CPU+PSU combination! :)

sorry about the delayed response, was on my break at work when i posted this thread and have now finshed, build is below, budget is around 1200-1300 mate

i was going to buy a 290x gfx because its not much worse than a 780ti and a lot cheaper and i was going to get the powercolor card which comes with free ram so even a better bonus but i'm new to pc and from what i've heard nvidia drivers are better or more developed than amd drivers.

so i just wanted pros and cons of both camps and which would be easier to setup to a nooby like me?

i would be playing games like dayz/cs:go/crisis/bf4/cod etc

Here try this thread, it has all you need to know

It might show you things that you didn't consider.

the powercolor 290x is pretty good but you could save a few quid and just get the 290, im using one with a 2560x1440 monitor and games are running sweet as

ok mate, i'll take your word for it, cheers for the recommendation, cant wait to build this rig, will be my first ever build so i'm getting ready to lose my eyebrows when it blows up haha.

I have SLI and have no probs or problems :D

Think about what games you play. People complain about AMD drivers, but i have had more trouble from nvidia drivers. For example my main game runs better on one 290x than two 680"s., which on paper are much more powerfull.
Would you go SLI crossfire, one day ? Depending on your motherboard a second one of those powercolour AMD"s might be to hot depending on your spacing between the PCI slots.

I switched from 780TI SLI to AMD R9 290 crossfire. For me they have better drivers and crossfire scaling was better on AMD.For games they trade blows.

You can buy 2 R9 290 cards for one 780TI card. For me it makes no sense at all to buy a Nvidia card.
AMD all the way.

I know you lot are always bashing each other about the red or green team:D

I have used both over the years and never really felt they were better or worse than each other, i always normally buy the top card, i have a 290x at mo, had a 7970 before that, 5870 before that:eek:

I know a lot of red:eek: its funny when im at formula 1 i try to support lewis & jenson but always get excited when the red ferrari went past:D
