Whatever happened to HHD?

I heard a lot of info about these (Hybrid Disks) , that they would be released by the end of the year ('06) and yet little has been heard about them since. Where arethey when will they be released? I would have thought releasing them just before Vista is a trick they missed.

Looks to me like they'd be better off going straight to fully flash memory HDDs.

Far too expensive. This looks like an excellent idea. Especially with vista's prefetch tech.

Maybe, but surely the main benefit of flash memory is that the access time of the data is reduced significantly.

Unless the drive has a good ratio of HDD size to flash memory size, you'd just end up losing access speed as it would have to keep spinning the disk up to access data it needs.
