Whatever happened to the Musical Instrument games?

the technology died with CRT TV's.

light guns cannot work with plasma's and LCD's, etc.

you now have to use a sensor (wii bar or kinect or PS eye) and special controller but the accuracy is terrible in comparison which makes the gameplay terrible and unrealistic.

they need someone to invent a new tech which will work with modern tv's, but seeing as there are so many more variables now than there was before; refresh rates, 3D, plasma, LCD, LED, etc. it is going to be hard to make something which works with all of them with very little problems.

Yeah I'm aware of all the technical reasons etc, but I don't care! :(

Make it >_<!!

I fired mine up last week for the first time in a long while.
**** me my wrists hurt after the first song on expert. I'd lost a lot of my legendary skill as well ;)

Rock band 3 killed it for me. A crappy coloured flashing fret board that made hitting some notes harder than it should have been. I would have continued to play RB2 but the DLC was only for the new one and little of the DLC interested me anymore.

I still keep all the stuff but for me they made far too many errors with RB3 and killed a game I adored.

What I want to know is what happened to properly good lightgun games?

Time Crisis 1, is the only good lightgun game. This is a fact. We need more games like that that are actually good and not a pile of crap. I love lightgun games. Seriously, I'd commit to a modern actually decent lightgun game.

Point Blank was the king of the lightgun game. :)

I'm sure even with the wii sensor bar it could be accurate enough for fun.

I got GH5 for my birthday last year and then for Christmas got bought the drumkit and a microphone also came with it. Is always something handy to have if a few friends come over for a few beers.

Truth.

RB3 was the nail in the coffin for not only the franchise, but the entire genre IMO.

I still occasionally have a brief glimpse at the weekly DLC, but they still continue to release absolute crud for it. I do look fondly back at the entire day-long drunken Rock Band/Guitar Hero parties I used to hold/go to. Those were great times, tons of fun, but I just can't find myself getting enthusiastic about it anymore when everyone else is as equally dried up with it as I am. :(

Still go on occasionally.

Can still 5* through the fire and flames on expert so I don't mind.

And I still play the rock band drums regularly.

Anyone wants to play Rock Band or GH3/Metallica. Say so.

I would have thought some type of film could be placed over the screen to act as a receiver like CRTs used to from light guns. No doubt the technology exists, probably just too expensive to be worthwhile.

Sucks, I love Time Crisis... :(

Wii remotes make suitable light guns :p Just don't think anyone really wants to play light gun games that much anymore :(

Ghost Squad on the Wii is good for some arcade shooting but it doesn't touch the arcade version!

As for Rock Band etc I think Harmonix are working on something new now that the court case has all been sorted but I wouldn't expect it to involve loads of different plastic instruments tbh. Retails stores hated them, it was difficult to add new features as your fans aren't going top be paying £80-90 every year for a new guitar.

no they don't, they work, but the accuracy is terrible imo.

in this day and age the technology has to be accurate and smooth, what happens with games using the wii sensor, kinect and ps eye is that they compensate for lack of accuracy by making the game easier or adding in a "aim assist".

nobody wants easier games or aim assist in a light gun game, it defeats the whole point of using a light gun in the first place and accurate and realistic experience, in real life it isn't easy and you don't get the "hand of god" guiding you.

there is a huge demand for it, but unfortunately the costs involved are so great i imagine it would be impossible to make a profit or very hard to.

ideally game developers need Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft to come up with a better technology then make use of that.

A kinect 2.0 or eye 2.0 could potentially be the solution, if it's really good.

I have The Beatles Rock Band. The production value of that game is very good. I still have a quick blast now and again.

I think the bottom line is that they are just very basic games dressed up with music and flashing lights. There's only so much you can do with that before they all become the same.

Did anyone here think that they had re-made klax when you first saw the game :o:cool:

I think they used up all the good songs and brought out to many games to soon. I also didn't like that they stop using a cover band and started using proper master's for the tracks, kinda ruined the vibe for me.

Whatever happened to the Musical Instrument games?

Weren't most of them published by activision? And because they didn't make £1billion+ a year like COD they decided to stop making them.

I thought they would make a comeback with the Playstation Move. I bought into it and bought Time Crisis 4, RE5, SOCOM and Killzone 3. Great games actually and i felt the accuracy was actually very good. Sadly it seems not to have taken off. :(
