just looking for a good blu ray writer/rewriter and that can still play media as well but after looking around theres so many and on a budget so want to make sure i get a good one that will last 
whats a good External blu ray writer/rewriter please ?

also not sure whats the max size of blu ray media nowadays, is it 50gb!

It's 25GB per layer, up to 4 layers. I'd get a Pioneer model as I bought an internal writer some years ago and it still serves me well.

i still have my pioneer too but last pc build upgrade for me leaves with no internal option so its just sitting in a box

I've got an asus external blu ray writer, no idea what model off the top of my head though but it looks like the ASUS BW-16D1H-U PRO.
Depending on the length of the drive you could and try and find an external enclosure for your existing blu ray drive.

Yeah the annoying thing is, at least in the case of my internal (pioneer iirc) it was about 10mm too long for most of the ones I found... that and they can be quite pricey for is essentially a case, a small power supply and a usb to sata converterthanks i'll check it, and oh man i didnt know you could get enclosures for internal drives
