whats a headphone amp for?

Another vote for the Move if you're spending around £150.

The Move is good enough for you to base your next headphone upgrade around too. They'll drive pretty much anything.

nutter lol, suppose I am a bit :D , but it is a bit silly running those headphones off the internal amp, I don't mean any offence, it's like me buying a pair of 1 grand book self speakers and pairing them with a matsui all-in-one hi-fi then I really would be a nutter ;) , look on the bay for a secound hand x-can headphone amplifer, that should start you off.

If I understand what your saying correctly then no it will not, you do not want to plug the headphone amp into the creative speaker system's audio jack where you curruntly plug your head phones into, what you want to do is plug it directly into the front left and right audio jack from the back of your sound card, basicly the best thing to do is get an 3.5mm jack splitter, google ''Hama Cable Adapter 3.5mm Jack to 2 x 3.5mm Sockets" (miss out the " ), plug that into the front L&R audio jack on the back of your soundcard, basicly that converts it into two, use one of the female jacks to plug your creative front left and right speaker jack into that you previously had plugged into the back of your sound card, the other female jack you can use for your head phone amp, the cable you need for the will be a , just google "3.5mm jack to left & right rca" (again, without the ") plug that cable into the spare female jack and the 2 left and right rca's will plug into the headphone amp, that way you can have your speakers working fine and your headphones through the amp without no messing around.

thanx m8!! good idea, dunno why i didnt think of that myself, i shall purchase myself an amp and see for my self, thanx again for your help and amp suggestions. now for a decision which to get

if i got some hd555`s and ran them from my hifi which would be connected to my x-fi would this be better than just running them directly from my x-fi?

I bought a headphone amp from a well known electronics parts supplier a few months back for £35 or so. It was going to be for my dad for watching tv (as he is rather hard of hearing). He decided to go another route, so I reclaimed it.

Its got small and large headphone jacks, tone control and volume. Has a line in and out/thru (twin phono gold plated connectors) so you could put it inline to your front speaker/line out channel of your soundcard (possibly with the aid of some adapters).

It was made by "Ctech" or possibly "Atech". Did a search for it before I Bought it and reviews tended to agree it was a very good amp for the money, seemed very good quality, decent amp chip etc - and if you are into diy electronics it can be modified easily into a very high quality amp....

...but they stopped stocking them, and although I saw a few crop up on ebay since there's nothing on there now. :(

Wish I had bought a few now. :D
