I have decided to overclock my 6800GT upto near ultra spec since its a Gainward GS and am slightly concerned about the temperatures when running. I have used search and looked around Google but it seems to bring a lot of mixed opinions.

Im currently running ATI Tool to test for artifacts, and the Temperature doesnt seem to be budging from 78c.

Is this temp OK for a few hours of gaming at a time, or am I better going onto stock again. I have an Artic Silencer fitted also.

Thanks :)

mine is idling at 60 now on stock coolers, but they only go up to around 75ish when playing fear or quake and they seem fine to me

Mines idling at 57 (amb 45) now since fitting an artic silencer, thats at 25% fan power on 2d mnd.
On 3d it's hitting about 65-75 depending upon external temps (no case cooling to speak off). Still not on full fans though I dont think.

Was +10-15 degrees onthose temps before with the poor stock cooler on the xfx.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ran WoW for a bit and experienced massive artifcating so im now back at stock. This was supposed to be a "Golden Sample" and it tested for operation at 400Mhz/1.1Ghz but it doesnt like that at all. Ill try some other combinations later.

That's fine - my 6800 (in sig) maxes-out around 82 and idles around 58. As long as you're not getting corrupt graphics you're golden.

I've seen 110 while playing RF Online, I'd been fiddling with fans and had forgotten to plug the vf700 fan back in :o it didn't crash, the Nvidia monitor dropped me back to desktop.

my old 6800nu fully unlocked and clocked to 390/835 ran up to 58c with the NV5 cooler. very good cooler for the cash. you many have yours seated incorrectly or its blocked up with dust which happens all the time.

Sorry to hijack this thread but what is the best way to clean a 6800gt without removing the fan?

I think there is some dust build up in mine (used to max at about 65 under load, now hitting over 80) and I'm thinking of just buying a tin of compressed air from homebase and blasting the fan and gpu. Would this be effective?

Regards.

I got a new 6800GT AGP a few weeks ago (not many around these days so I was quite lucky to find one) and was pleasantly surprised to see that it idles at 53-54 degrees on the stock cooler.

Like Lynx24 says if you're still worried about your temperatures then its worth re-fitting the Arctic Cooler using Arctic Silver 5.

78 degrees does sound quite high?

78 is fine for a max temp - no problems at all.
