What's Andover Like?

Its nice - just outside the easily-commuteable-to-London range which makes it quieter and somewhat cheaper than Basingstoke for instance. Close to the countryside, safe, a bit boring. I have never lived there but know people who do and its fine. I would prefer Salisbury personally - however you cant go much wrong in that area as far as im concerned.

Worked there for 10 years and have a couple of friends still there. I now live about 15 miles away.

Location wise, its great. You can get to so many places easily. Andover itself is not so great, not many nice bars, clubs restuarants things to do etc... But you do have Winchester & Basingstoke just down the road.

Don't you work out whether you want to live in a place/rent out a place before deciding to buy a place in that area?

Welp.

I might do that, but have been renting for a long time so quite keen to buy now.

Thanks for the replies so far, keep them coming.

Thanks. I'm not too bothered about a lack of bars and clubs because I don't do much of that these days anyway.

Ideally I am looking for somewhere quiet and civilised, with low crime levels.

I'm sorry but I would not recommend Andover as a place to live.

I lived there from '77 through '03, apart from four years at University. It has a distinct lack of things to do and is lacking in decent bars, clubs and restaurants. Shopping is pretty poor too.

It's about 1hr 20mins into Waterloo on the train and isn't that badly positioned to get to Winchester, Salisbury, Reading and Basingstoke but the place itself is not good.

edit: From the people I know who still live in Andover I would not considered the average member of the towns population as civilised.

I'm thinking of buying a flat, and Andover in Hampshire is a possibility. Can anyone tell me what it's like?

Thanks

i currently live in andover, Andover as a whole is ok depending on where your moving to. but really there is not much to do and the town center is pretty crap, there is one main night club called life AKA "sticky carpet"

I have not got as far as specific areas yet, would you recommend any?

What are the Forge Fields flats like? (close to Sainsbury's I think)

How's your broadband connection just outside Andover?

Thanks

Using Virgin cable so problems here. But I'm unsure if virgin cable covers the whole of Andover. Forge field flats are opposite the Vauxhall forecourt. Pleasant enough area and only a 5 minute walk into town. :)

ahahah, that doesn't surprise me.

Radder, Forge Fields near the vauxhall garage? those flats are pretty big quite and are good, the only downside would be the current road works taken place on the enham arch round about, also club leavers who currently go to the mobile keskins over the road. Avoid king arthurs way, we just moved into a 2 bedroom house with garage up the drove for 675 PCM
