Whats better - 9600XT or Ti4200

and the 9600xt's are nowhere near as fast as the 9800's. well generally speaking, i mean they are both slow these days, but the 9600's were quite a bit slower. 15k for a stock 9600xt and a 2.25ghz a64 in 3dmark2001. woah.

9700/9800's are approximate;y 2x faster than a 9600XT, they're the best budget card available nowadays, any mate still on AGP looking for a cheap card... that's what I tell em to get. :)

9600XTs clocked like a beast on the core normally due to there smaller process than 9700/9800 Pros and ran cool too. Still not as fast as a 9800 Pro, but certainly weren't half the speed (especially with both clocked).

Add AA + AF and definately 2x slower...

Ok, thats true, the 9600 will be killed with AA/AF due to its 128bit memory bus, but no one is going to be using either on any recent game as the performance would be dire.

True, but the 9800PRO is still up to 2x faster in higher resolutions than the 9600XT... even without AA/AF. :)

Ive got a 4200ti in this PC im using now and TBH ive been quite surprised what it can actually play, I put farcry on it just to keep my boy quiet thinking he may be able to play it at 600x400 with all settings low, but it manages 1024x768 medium detail no probs and actually looks quite nice  Titles older than that, Beyond Good evil and RTCW for instance can be played maxed. I think its only recently that games have been taking the wii (sorry nintendo) with the machine specs needed to play em, Ive got no chance of maxing any of the current games with my rig I paid 1500 for 7 montht ago :(

Just checked the 9600XT, and it turns out its a 256Mb model.

The Ti4200 is a gainward ultra with the red fan and ramsinks
