just ran speedtest after a mate was bragging about his 11mbps score on it, and was shocked to say the least at my results

my internet has been like glue for the last few days - and its clear why now

we pay for 4mb i think it is.

I am on a wireless USB dongle, but the performance is pretty much the same if not worse on the PC directly connected to the router

whats going on???

I had that for approx 2 months and after sending in 3 electronic complaints with traceroute's netstat -a's and DL rates from VM sites the problem seems to have gone away (Well only getting 2Mb from an UPTO 4Mb line which was way better than the less than 56Kb i was getting) Never got any replies about what was wrong but it would work for upto a couple of days then start again. Its now been 2 weks plus so crossed fingers here.
Have the links for the complaint page of the VM site if you cant find it.

just ran the test again this morning

this has been what its like for ages now, when i first get up and turn PC on, i've got a decent connect, but when i come home (about 10pm) everything goes really slow (above test)

we aren't on the virgin media package, but we do get our broadband from virgin

ReaVerUK, don't suppose you could forward the links please, on here or to my Email addy ([email protected])

thanks

Slow speed connection complaint form:

There gonna ask for a netstat -a test and DL speed of 4 100Mb files from 2 stated sites and that you run a spyware scan first if you just give what is asked for on the page above.

I've sent you an email with all the links and instructions they sent me after i initially sent just the 3 traceroutes.

If its the same problem as mine it won't be the modem or router but its worth giving it a try first before trying the above.

If you're on Virgin ADSL then switch, the ADSL offering is well known for being horrific at peak times and not much better at normal times. If that's a cable connection then ring tech support asap and get it logged as that's not on.

thanks for the email ReaVerUk, will try those things out

If i was to change provider's, any one supplier you'd recommend in particular??

thanks

If you are on Virgin Media DSL, then i would try Virgin Media Cable Broadband if you can get it in your area. If not, then have a look at Be Broadband. But again it is a DSL service. Factors are quality of your telephone line, quality of your master socket in your house, distance from the exhange, etc. These factors determine how well your broadband will operate in your area.
