What's going on with The Royal Mail?

RM are shocking!!!

Lost a parcel I sent so I've made a claim. They wrote me a letter saying the investigation will take three months lol

My very order which I paid for Sat shipping hasn't arrived. It's now Monday and tracking says it's still at their main hub. Don't think it's coming today either.

No complaints from me, even DPD are pretty good here.

I did tip my postie 20 quid last xmas when they'd been striking, he's now super nice and every package is bang on time with a stop for a chat.

My RM deliveries have been very good until the last couple of weeks. They always seem to be getting stuck or have issues at Gatwick Mail Centre. Had one thing that was sent back to a different mail centre after getting there, only to be sent back again and delivered a few days late.

Don't know what they are playing at to be honest.

Just waiting on some shoes I ordered for my dad, they were sent tracked 24 post yesterday, apparently as of 11pm last night they were at the regional mail center and are on their way to my local delivery office.

Something tells me I'm not seeing them today, and he needs them by tomorrow lunchtime which is why I paid for 24 hour delivery (he wanted some warmer shoes, and as he's got swollen feet and started out as a 12/13 retail shopping is not an option*),

I miss the days when RM actually was next day even when you didn't pay a premium, heck I miss when it was next day when you paid the premium so that in theory they couldn't hide that they had failed so easily.

On a related note, I've observed that some of the retailers that used to use RM as their main delivery option seem to be using Evri more now, even for small low value stuff (like DVD's), almost like they're seeing that Evri is more reliable for the price. Evri!

*Even Clarks don't routinely carry size 12 or 13 in most styles in their larger stores, and experience has taught me that most other shoe retailers tend to top out at size 11 "in shop" (I loathe shoe shopping, and have done since I hit about 15 and size 12).

If you go to send a parcel on post office website, RM is not top of the list!

I've just spotted a new on on the RM tracking site.#

Apparently the shoes (still not turned up) were received by the RM sorting office Tuesday.
They had it out for delivery yesterday (so RM hours are presumably much longer than normal?;)) but "unable to attempt delivery"
And as of 11pm last night it seems to have reset the tracking to "Received from sender", although it still shows all the previous history.

That seems really odd, as IIRC normally "received from sender" comes much earlier, such as when they receive the package not after they've spent 3 days sitting on it at a sorting office and have a failed to attempt delivery (I'm guessing Doctor Who is involved, given according their tracking they received it from sender days after it was booked in at two different facilities).

Had a parcel delivered by Royal Mail a couple of days ago, and while I appreciate that they do try to deliver parcels rather than returning them to the DO, I'd prefer that the delivery didn't involve throwing it over my fence.

There was a camera lens in that box, obviously constructed using glass and overall quite fragile. Thankfully the sender packed it very well and it appears to be undamaged. Morons.

At least they delivered it out of sight though unlike Amazon who just leave them outside my front door in full view of passers by. Not sure what I prefer more.... the risk of parcels being nicked or smashed to bits.

RM are giving priority to Signed for mail according to what I read.

I've had tracked/signed for come next day every time recently.
I live in a city centre area, people in more rural areas or on the outskirts probably aren't so lucky

That could have been the least it was bashed on the whole journey

RM and post offices are separate companies so they have no reason to do RM any favours

Always sent high value items RM Special delivery as I thought it was the safest bet but since I had to make an actual claim for something they lost I will never use them again. After 2 months they decided that a book of 6 stamps was all the compensation I deserved and if I wanted to take it further I would need to appeal which could take months. This was for an item insured for £350 that was apparently lost at their superhub they said as the item is technically still in the system as far as tracking they would not offer anything else. Useless....

They've always been seen as one by the public though, and both benefit from this which is why it's mad. Well, they were benefitting from each other until RM lost the plot and PO lost a lot to technology. Though does appear PO have modernised quite a bit while RM haven't at all.

Does anyone know of a delivery service that is actually half decent?

General consensus is it's area dependant. DPD generally the best, but still plenty of gripe with them on here.

DPD are wonderful RM are diabolical lol I've got a tracked package stating "in transit" it was delivered last week postie didn't bother to scan it in that its delivered. Also got a "sorry you were out" card through the door today even though I was in even heard him shoving another package through the door it'll end in me collecting from the depot as usual. At least its not far away.

I'd prefer them to simply leave the parcel on the doormat honestly the only passers by are other flat owners. Amazon also do that whether theres anyone in or not they do at least knock first though. Honestly I think they offer a better service than RM for parcels/packages

Sounds like you'd be better off not getting parcels delivered to your address if they have to either be left in a dodgy area or lobbed over a gate if you're out, which it sounds like you are a lot. Maybe use Amazon lockers or get a parcel box installed?

DPD and Royal Mail are best for me. Very reliable and on the rare occasions something is late I get notified in plenty of time.

Evri and UPS are absolute garbage to the point I won't buy from somewhere that uses them, I'll pay a premium if necessary.

Had a flyer in the junk mail today - why not order your repeat prescriptions and get them through the post? With rubbish RM? Nah.
I've had so many of those and they always go straight in the bin.

For one thing I actually like being able to walk into the pharmacy and if i've got a question about something speak to a human, and the local chemist I use has a great staff (they're massively overworked in a unit that is far too small and it shows unfortunately, but the staff are great).
