Whats gone wrong?

In which case i'd have a talk to them about getting a new one.

The fix would probably be a new motherboard, but with stuff like this i doubt very much if it's worth it.
 
Im going to get them to look at getting a Athlon x2 based system, should be able to get an adaquote sytem for about £200-250.

DVD Writer - £15
320GB WD HDD - £35
CM Elite 330 - £25

That's about as cheap as you could reasonably go.
