What's happened to all the decent pub food?

All local Pubs that have any self respect should have home cooked food instead of deep fried crap. On the other hand I went to a Toby Carvery at the weekend for a meal, £6/£7(can't remember exactly) but it was a quality carvery with all the food set out in front of you and quite a lot to choose from meat wise + free refills on drinks. I'd say I definitely got my moneys worth and was quite impressed, thought it would be a ****hole with frozen food but it wasn't. :)

I've eaten and drank there a couple of times, and it's pretty 'meh'. I got the view that it was more of the same microwaved stuff that you find in most pubs. I wouldn't rush back.

This is really good, though a bit of a jaunt from the city - http://kippencrosskeys.com/.

it's recently been taken over, you must have went when the old owners had it, the food has improved a lot since then.

We have a large pub near us, part of a small chain but HUGELY popular, and with god reason. Carvery is stunningly good, 3 meats, shedloads of veg. HUGE cake counter with everything made fresh, and they do some really nice mains and specials. Had a steak and onion pie once, you could easily tell it wasn't frozen stuff.

Another pub nearby which is more expensive food but very good locally sourced stuff, can't fault it at all is the Walton Arms. Got a meal that had boar sausages from there as it was a special, it was honestly some of the best grub I've ever had. Proper mash and gravy, proper pudding after, it was all legit stuff.

But other than that, it's depressing how many places just has frozen stuff, and it is noticable. I remember working with Dad, giving him a hand with building a conservatory in a place called Overton, near Morecambe, and the two pubs there were slightly dire. It was all either burgers and curries, or simple sarnies. :(
