Ok folks here’s the skinny.

I’ve been putting this off waiting for 2nd gen newer products but it’s time I built myself a new box. I have a 2k budget will stretch a bit. What I need? I’m looking for a quiet but powerful preferably water cooled CPU within a sound proofed case since the box will be used primarily in my home studio as a music/post production work station. I don’t require a keyboard/mouse or monitor (Dual monitor set up at the moment). I would prefer an SSD boot OS drive up to at least 120Gb. I need firewire 400 support for my outboard sound device/controller mixer and a couple of HDD storage devices preferably 1 or 2 Tb capacity at 7200 as I’ll be working with pro tools and need the quicker drives in addition to at least 8Gb of RAM. I’ll need a decent Gfx card to run two Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS 27" monitors possibly expanding to 3 at a later date depending on the Gfx card selections.

do you want to go full on watercooled system or do you want one of the all-in-one type CPU water coolers like a Corsair H70?

As far as full water cooled systems are concerned I’m open to suggestion however I’m a complete novice. In the past I’ve tended to get bogged down when considering pumps probably from over thinking the GPM flow. The H70 is not out of the question though.

That should be almost silent if you can find a Seasonix X series PSU.

i thought the OP said a couple of 2TB drives?

And maybe the option for a third monitor?

• With O/S
• 16GB RAM
• 4TB storage:)
• The option of fitting a third monitor, with Nvidia you need two cards, you can use one ATI card if it has a Display port output too and one of your monitors has a Displayport input, but that model monitor does not, unless the next monitor you add is a different one with Display port, then you can use just a single ATI card.
• Find a fanless Seasonic X series PSU, the case has sound deadening foam.

If you use a third monitor without a Displayport input, you can just use one card like this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-258-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1711

Using a Displayport adapter.

The Harddrives are too expensive when Samsung F3's or Seagate Barracuda 7200.11/12 are as fast.

I did consider the Samsung's as I've got 2 in this box at the mo and they are excellent for the money. I would never go near seagate again though too many of their drives have failed on me. I decided to go with the SATA III's though simply because of the 64mb buffer as 1 of them will hold BFD2 drum sampler and all it's sample kits. However I had already placed the order when I posted.
