Whats sake like?

I love booze, but sake is bloody terrible.

Hmm I am getting increasingly suspicious of your lack of taste. Zinfandel all terrible [yes I know I owe you a bottle!], sake all terrible. At least rotty was openminded to the idea that he possibly had had a bad one.

I have had some amazing sake and some stuff I literally couldn't drink it was so horrible. It's wine. It's VERY varied.

Admitably, I've only had a few different types (3, I believe) but it was just something that I didn't like.
Of course I accept you get different types (I'm a whisky lover, so go figure!) but I was generalising based on my experience.
I'm trying to think of a bar in Glasgow that would have a fair selection. If I could then I'd happily take a note of a good one (they'd be likely to have) and make sure to try it soon, but I can't think of any such bars and don't eat Japanese food very often (owing to a lack of decent Japanese restaurants!)

Glad you haven't forgotten about the bottle. It's my birthday in November. ;)

Fortunately for you we have two bottles in the kitchen that we're using as candle holders. I have no idea of the names [any Japanese speakers know?] but here's what they LOOK like - these are apparently common ones. I can confirm both were delicious.

If you see these ones in a bar, try them.

Right oh Lysander, saved them on my phone. Asked on Facebook for a bar in Glasgow that sells Sake. Let this discovery begin!

Godspeed on your quest! Let us know how it goes.

EDIT: and by the way, those are both cold sakes.

There's lots of different sake's and they do vary a lot in taste so basing your opinion on a single one may be ruling out other you would like. Personally I'm not keen on it (I don't tend to drink any spirits) but my dad likes it.

You'll get warm sake that's a bit nasty as serving it warm is supposed to be to make poor quality sake taste better.

Didn't Bond drink some in You Only Live Twice, noting that it was served at the correct temperature of ??.? degrees. And that is as far as my knowledge on sake goes.

I've never tried sake so I cant comment on that. But one Japanese drink I do like is plum wine! I've had it straight and also with ice and soda. Never tried it hot though.

Plum wine is chiefly Korean. It's great, though gets you drunk faster because of the higher sugar content.

Is it? I had a bottle of it at a Japanese resteraunt. They even served it in this fancy little vessel that kept it cold and the cups were like tiny eggcups almost. Sake cups? Dunno...

I meant that it's the main drink of Korea. Of course they serve it in Japan too.

I remember the sake I had whilst in japan a few years ago, 50p in a carton, it was terrible but you can kinda understand why :p

I had some good stuff previously that was very nice though, so as others have said it does vary a lot.
