Alright lads, hows tricks?

Just build a new system, first for ages and in the interim I've kinda lost touch with the dull world of HDD's. Last system I build was all IDE this and that and now I find it's all moved on to this SATA malarky! I've got my new Sata drive working nicely, problem I have is my mobo only has 1 IDE controller, and I have a DVD and cd writer and two IDE hard drives that I would like to carry on using. So what are my options? Obviously 4 IDE devices into one controller dont go, so can I, via some sort of adaptor, make and IDE hard drive work off one of the free SATA controllers on the mobo? or can you get a caddy that would run one of the hard drives off the eSata port on the back?

As I say Sata has kinda passed me by, how many SATA devices can you run off one Sata controller on the MOBO? And how many devices can you run off the eSata port?

Cheers for your help guys and gals.

Fair doos, so there are not any ide-sata adaptors then?

I thought not, but googling for it I found a couple of interesting results.

You could invest in a pci idecard..... Probably cheaper to get the sata-ide converter though (or a new set of sata drives..)

I'd pick the PCI controller card as suggested by pingwing over the adapters if you have the choice, it doesn't need to be a particularly expensive card (~£10-15 should do it) but it offers more options and is probably more reliable.

I've used Highpoint Rockethead IDE HD to SATA port convertors on a few systems and never had a problem. Recommended if you want to connect your IDE HD's to a SATA mobo easily.
