Whats that app that shifts a character to one screen in a dual-monitor setup?

3rd rock...
Hey guys. I seem to remember that there was this neat software (or was it a game-specific tweak?) that was designed for people with dual-monitors who have the annoying problem of bezels right down the middle when playing FPS games or 3rd-person games like Oblivion.

This neat program shifted the camera viewpoint to the left screen. Basically it did what games like Dead Space and Just Cause do natively. The character is not dead center but hes on the left screen only. So the bezel down the middle aint a big deal. I made a very crude drawing in Paint to illustrate :D

Anyone know what Im on about lol. I remember using it on Oblivion and it worked great.

For those of us saving up money for that 3rd monitor to game in Eyefinity this will carry us through till then. I hope someone on here remembers hee hee.

Thanx!

You've got me thinking now katana:D

i would LOVE to find this neat bit of software and try it for myself. Did you find out what it was?

So let me get this perfectly straight; you're looking for software that ADDS a virtual space between the two monitors (in any game) to compensate for your bezel?

I dunno about anyone else, but I think I'd rather play single screen than either of those two examples - Whatever floats your boat!

No Im still lookin for it! I will defo jump on here and let ya'll know when I find it hee hee. It basically somehow shifted the camera viewpoint to one side so that people with dual monitors could game happily away without the characted stuck in the bezel. I distinctly remember it cuz I used to play Oblivion across two monitors on Windows XP because that OS allowed Horizontal Spanning (annoyingly removed from Win 7).

Just Cause 2 or 1? How do I enable this?

I meant JC2 sorry! You dont have to enable anything :) The game is designed by default so that the character is on the left.

Might have been SoftTH

Hmmm will check that out!

No :) . In most games your character is dead center in the screen right? What this app did was shift the character/camera viewpoint to the left. The main purpose of this was so that you could *see* what you were doing - aiming a gun, using a sword etc. All that would be lost if youre stuck in the bezel. Best way to imagine it is to think of the camera panning to the right a bit resulting in the game character appearing on the left.

Im starting to wonder wether it was a tweak to games .cfg file or something. Will look into it.

I have to say, Eyefinity is AWESOME.

You do need to create a display group in the CCC.

Fired up JC2 and it works fantastically well.

The crosshair seems to be "inbetween" bezels though?

Ah now I see what you mean.

Now that makes a lot more sense, otherwise it would be utter junk for an FPS game to not be able to see their corsshair. This would be a fantastic idea, there has to be something out for it, dual screen gaming would be so much better with this.

Normally you're stuck with a crosshair split between two screens and I can't imagine how you'd perform a headshot with that setup (i.e. how does he see the zombies at 0:25 in the vid below). Saying that, I bet you'd get used to it pretty quick.

Would be nice to hear from someone who has a dual monitor setup for gaming. There has to be someone on here.

The short answer is No.
The long answer is Noooooooooooooooooooooo...

Seriously though, the game has to support this. I've seen games where you can set the viewport offset etc like the quake series. And I've seen mods for specific games like World of Warcraft that can do this, but I've never encountered a third party program that can do it. To do it without leaving you with a big black bar on one side of one of the screens would mean writing for every game engine and variations thereof, it would be an immense task to do this. Essentially you're controlling where the camera lies in relation to the viewport, so you're seeing things at an angle as it were.

There are of course, two "simple" options.

1) 3 monitors instead of 2, the bevels aren't in quite so critical a place then. - this was my solution for quite some time, but i actually prefer option 2 now.
2) just game on one of the monitors, use the others for films and browsing at the same time.

I wish they would do screens with the option to remove the bevel from any given side so that it can be put together with another one seamlessly.
