Whats the best 360 fault worth trying to fix?

When my 360 is out of warranty should I use the X Clamp Fix Kit as a prevention to hardware problems. Instead of waiting for something to go wrong. As the old saying goes "Prevention is better than cure".

if it aint broke...

Very true, but with a Xenon/Zephyr 360, it will be eventually ;)

Personally I have done the xclamp replacement on all my working 360s - one is a Falcon and the other is a Zephyr. I prefer to do the method which involves drilling through the case and putting washers under the board to support it further - this helps keep the board flatter than the straightforward bolting heatsinks directly to the board method.

They've both been working for quite a while now, but they likely would've been fine for a while anyway. At least it hasn't done more harm than good :) I'm confident they'll last a while anyway.

it only bloody worked!

a 360 for £31.15! (and bloody knuckles!)

waiting for the second one to arrive now!

I bought a 360 Premium with RROD off my mate for £20 because he wanted to go out on the drink :p

Sent it off to Microsoft, just checked and it has been repaired and I am awaiting it to be delivered.

I've just done the oven fix with the x-clamp fix as well, brilliant, no more rrod. Problem is the drive is sticking again, not much of a problem as I can just put a paperclip in and manually eject.

But is there anyway I can Get a newer/quieter drive to work with it ?

Not really, the key of the drive is matched to the motherboard.

If you were switching drive brands you would need to spoof the drive and give it an indentity crisis.

This involves dumping the drives firmware, taking the key. Dumping your other drive, inserting the key and then putting it back in.

There are some guides around somewhere.

Or you can just buy a drive of the same type and swap the PCBs over. This way you don't have to mess about with swapping the keys.

I am not sure if the above would work because different drives contain different PCB's.

Best way to keep your 360 quiet is to load all your games onto the HDD.

That's why he said a drive of the same type ;)

Exactly :)

Any Samsung PCB will work in any Samsung drive - regardless of it being ms25 or ms28, and the same goes for Hitachis and BenQ drives - any BenQ PCB works in any BenQ drive and any Hitachi PCB works in any Hitachi drive, regardless of whether, say, the PCB is from a 47DJ and the drive is a 79FL.
