What's the "best" Android sat nav app with local maps?

Just to jump in on this and go back to the original OP, you do know that Google Maps uses hardly any data don't you? Mine uses about 60mb for a 400 mile round trip.

Unless you're going very every day then I don't see it being an issue. Plus you can precache areas, and the next major update is rumoured to have fully downloadable maps.

Looking for a navigation app for my Note, I have co-pilot installed but that along with standard google navigation both have an annoying feature.

Whenever I recieve a call while using the navigation the navigation minimises until call has ended, are there any apps that leave the navigation screen up and instead have the call minimised in background?

Has anyone tried ROUTE 66? What about TomTom on iOS (which is coming to Android in October), and if so, how does it compare to the options available across iOS and Android? With the software that is available on both platforms, are there any functionality differences? Do any of the Android options make good use of the larger screen estate on a 7" tablet?

They all scale to tablets.

Hi all.

Some useful information on this thread, but wondered what people thought about the Android satnav apps now several months have passed, and newer version are probably out?

Would be particularly interested to here what people think about the apps giving navigation in western Europe.

We're thinking of going to France this summer and are not sure that the navigation apps are like in this country.

We used Ovi maps last year to navigate from Nottingham to Belgium, and the app (on a Nokia) was really great, shame the hardware let us down a few times.

Now i have an S3, i wouldn't mind paying for a decent sat nav app like Navigon/ co-pilot or Sygic, as long as it was as good in France than it is here in England.

The opportunity to move the app to another phone is also a bonus, I read Uriel's post which said Navigon would stay on his phone while Co-pilot would move to his wife's phone. Can't you move the license for Navigon to a different phone now?

I still use Google Nav, satellite maps is just better than everything else.
I also have Sygic which is paid for but prefer Google. I've also tried all the other big names.

Been using copilot since it's android launch, and it's fine. UK & Ireland version is around £20.

Do you find Copilot is a little lax at informing you of approaching turns? On my SII he always tells me to take the exit I've just passed if I'm not paying attention, especially on multiple roundabouts :D

I have it muted most of the time tbh
