Hi there please can you help me install a new anti virus program. I installed kaspersky and nod32 before both both caused me problems so dont want to go back there again, but I remember seeing a website before which had a list of antivirus programs and it said which one was the best and listed them all in order, but I cant seem to find the website now so thought I'd ask here instead.

The website I saw before showed you stats based on a machine being infected with 350 virus/trojens and how many each antivirus program detected, and out of the entire list there was only one antivirus program that detected them all which sounds really impressive but I cant remember the name, am thinking it might be AVG but am not sure.

So any help/advice given is much appretiated,

I can guarantee it wasn't AVG.

Go here and check out some results.

I personally think Avira is a cracking free application. You'll see from the results that it comprehensively outquaffs almost all the opposition in all areas. It's unobtrusive [especially if you turn the nag screen off], resource friendly and very, very fast.

;)

I personally think Kaspersky is excellent, if you have Barclays online account you can get 3 licenses for nothing, bargain. I'd be interested to hear what your problems with it were as the updates are very regular, and in my experience it doesn't have a particularly negative effect on my laptops performance and pops up now and again notifying me of potential issues, programs trying to do odd things etc. which I never had on AVG so it looks to me to be doing a lot more (even if it is BS :) )

Looking at the AV comparative linked above you can see Kaspersky rates highly while AVG does pretty poorly, I used AVG myself for a few years and was generally very happy with it but think there are better alternatives out there.

Don't know how accurate/fair these tests are though.

Avast.
75 Million users say so
Although 500 zillion flys like eating crap so Meh :p

Seriously though I have used Avast for nigh on 2 years now & it is Light, Free & secure, Not one single problem the whole time I've used it

Because i can't be bothered paying for NOD32 even though i did think it was pretty good. I've recently found comodo antivirus to be unintrusive and fine by my standards. Picks up apps trying to install things and "learns" as it goes along. It's all i really need :)
