Whats the best bang-for-buck CPU at the moment?

Thanks for all the opinions guys, I did look at the X38 boards but Cob is right - the buget is tight!
I did look at the Gigabyte GA P35 DS3R as an option but it doesnt have a firewire port and I might be looking at doing some video/camcorder editing etc within the next 12 months! I'm assuming that firewire is still better for video editing that USB 2.0??

Pretty much everything from the £82 Abit IP35 downwards here has Firewire.

I dont know much (anything ) about Abit - are they considered decent overclockers then??

And what are the pro's and con's of the Abit IP35 and the Abit IP35-E (since these are the ones in my price range) - is the IP35 worth the extra £20??

Just read a bit about the differences between using USB 2.0 and firewire for video editing etc and firewire is the clear winner so I think I'll go for one of the Abit boards..

The DS3P has Firewire.


But I didn't realise that the Abit IP35-E did too. Unless you need more than the 4 onboard SATA ports then the Abit IP35-E might be a good choice.

Do you know what the difference is between the IP35 and the IP35-E??

hmmm, just seen a review saying the IP35-E has limited room for a CPU cooler (I use a Coolermaster Hyper TX which is quite large!) and also a "weird double boot problem"?!?!? - anyone have any experience of this??
