What's the best fans to get for my case?

I'm fairly new to computer building and still haven't figured out the best fans to use.

I currently have a mini case (this) and I'm conscious that my gpu and cpu are getting too hot, so I'm going to get a new cpu cooler and also some fans for the case.

What is the cheapest fans to get that'll fit my case and be suitable for my PSU and MOBO (I'm not sure if it's relevent).

Edit: Can you recommend and CPU cooler to replace my current Wraith Stealth one?

Many thanks

Am I right in thinking I can get a CPU cooler that's less that 160mm in height, meaning this will fit nicely?

Edit: Purchased - thank you! Turned out OC was cheaper than a very popular website named after a river.

i got 5 from a competitor this weekend becuase I get free delivery.

gonna swap all the fans over myself. i think around 1100rpm it is whisp quiet and none of those motor whine noist. around 1000rpm you will hear an audible motor whine.

good value

Best are probably be quiet! Silent Wings 3, or even better Noctua NF-A12x25, but also very expensive.

Arctic P12 are a good low cost option if you can get them at low cost.

Another very good fan is Phanteks PH-F120MP 2-pack £14.99 making them £7.50 a fan.

Your QS-240 should perform very well with just 2x 120mm front intakes and block all openings in front half of case not covered by those 2 intakes so the air they push into motherboard compartment has to flow on thorugh case and out, not leak around fans and end up going in circles. Remove all PCIe back slot covers to increase rear vent area around GPU and thus improve front to back airflow for lower temp air entering coolers resulting in lower component temps and lower fan speed/less noise.

Attached link below to basic guide to how airflow works and how to optimize case airflow might be helpful. It give more detailed explanation of case airflow.

As to what CPU cooler to use, it depends on motherboard as well as case clearance, and of course how much you want to spend. Price range is mid 20s on up. Higher price gets more heatpipes and better cooling which means lower fan speed and less noise. In the £40-60 range there are several very good coolers.

Another vote for the Arctic P12s here.

Note there are a few versions. If you can find them, get the Arctic P12s PWM PST version. The PST bits mean they have built in daisy chain ability to share the pwm across 1 signal/cable (for example if you had a line of them across one side of your case).

Weirdly their stock/price fluctuates between around £6-12 however even at £12 they beat anything at that price range for me. You have to get to some thing like the Noctua A12s to get a better fan and those are £20ish

For price, agree here too.

Not sure about the Arctic fans price fluctuating, around the same each the two times I went for them so can't really comment on them. The Noctua A12x25's however, can hover between £26 to £32. So a fair bit more per fan.

Fantastic comments from you all - a massive thank you!

I bought the Artic fans, but I am concerned with powering them. Is it just a simple 4pin that plugs into them from the psu?

They plug into the motherboard fan headers, if you bought the PST version of the fans you can daisy chain them together

One addendum here: If you daisy chain them, do not have more than 3 attached to one motherboard header. Typically 3 is fine, but any more and it might try and suck more power than what the fan header on a motherboard will supply. In a good scenario, they just won't work. In a bad one, it could fry the header.

Fitted all mine last night. 2 on the roof, 2 on the front rads and 1 at the back. It is quiet.

got fan profile to go at 20% under 40c - fan only runs at min 600rpm it appears.

Ramp up to 62% around 1100RPM @50c and stays there. When at full pelt it is quite audible. (Not crazy loud but you can hear it). @1100rpm there is a decent amount of air being pulled out of the case for me to be satisfied that there is gonna be decent air flow over the GPU and VRM and still maintain quietness

very very quiet. Front rad is in push pull config. Will be getting some phantek halos for some special effects.

So I bought the this CPU cooler, but it will not for my motherboard

Can somebody please confirm that this cooler does indeed fir my case and motherboard. I am pretty ****** off with it now, so any help is appreciated.

Uh oh. That cooler has a height listing of 157mm, and your case lists 160mm for CPU cooler clearance. So that's very tight already.

I have the Arctic Freezer 34, so it's the same dimensions, but I have a Corsair 300R case, and that lists 170mm max height for the cpu cooler. And guess what? I can ONLY JUST fit my side panel back on (windowed one). The window is basically touching the top of the pipes from the Freezer 34.

So I think there's a heavy dose of overestimation of cpu height clearance from case manufacturers and you got unlucky here.

I think itll be extremely close if I could get it to fit. The fixing points arent suitable for the motherboard, which makes me wonder it isnt compatible!

Yeah, they were loose and wobbling all over the place.

I just left it off and will fit it to my Ryzen 5600x and b550, presuming it fits?

Both the a350 and the b550 motherboards should work with that cooler.
It should have come with a few different brackets and screws and you picked the ones for AM4 right?
