I've had Norton for last few years as it was only 30 quid but there wanting 60 this time and cant find it cheaper anywhere so just going to download a free one.

I play quite a lot of competitive multilayer games, Norton was a pain in the ass for some of the games not letting me play without adding exceptions in the settings. So looking for a hassle free one when it comes to games , or a cheap alternative :)

I read an article in PC Pro the other day that said Avast offers the best protection without any fees.

I have since switched over to this (from Bitdefender) to see how it performs.

Once I have used it for a while, I will post an update.

Microsoft security essentials has always served me well.

Windows defender combined with being careful about what sites I go and not downloading anything dodgy has served me well.

I like how non intrusive it is.

It's not free but I use Webroot - from ebay its £20 for 5 licences for a year and you can manage the AV from a central console. It also is pretty good at capturing malware as well as AV's and as importantly is quick

Haven't used one for years.

Now and again I'll download malware bytes and run a full scan and use trend housecall for a full scan as well.

I use none, i find that if you do things legit and don't click on anything that blatantly looks like a virus of forms you won't get any.

Think its time you ran a scan.

I've had attempts from legitimate sites that have been compromised.

I think Adobe had an issue a while back

This is terrible advice, I can't believe multiple people in this thread are saying this.

Frequently legit sites are hacked and used to host exploit kits and no being "careful about the sites you browse" is going to stop that. Even with up to date software you can still be vulnerable.

Example of a site we have all probably used - speedtest.net

Angler EK using multiple 0 day (ie. no patch from vendor available) attacks.

Sure AV isn't perfect but it's far better than nothing.

Moved from Avast Free to Bit Defender Free because it was less intrusive. However(!), I couldn't get it to work on my other 2 PC's, it would just fail to initialise over and over.
