right,,i was going to get the 970 but ive worked out my finances and cant afford one at the moment so it has to be the 960,,,i know people will prob say get the r9 380 but i want to stay with nvidia,,,,so people,,whats the best 960 to get for under £200??

thanks :)

At around the £200 Mark is seriously consider picking up a used 780 heck in some occasions I've seen 780 Tis going for a little over £200 if you can't stretch to that like ibsais id definitely consider a 780 over a 960

wouldnt a 960 be a bit more future proof though? as it supports direct x 12?

I have a GTX960 - the R9 380 is a faster card and I would always pay less for an equivalent GTX960 over an R9 380. Don't get caught up with misguided brand loyalty if you are buying budget graphics cards as every extra bit of speed is important. My previous GTX660 is being stomped by the AMD equivalent in more and more games too. In both cases I paid £30 to £50 less for the equivalent Nvidia cards though which made them better value.

Nvidia 900 series aren't full direct x 12 also you'll get more Vram more bandwidth so as long as your psu can take it is go 780 or heck I've seen used r9 290s go for like 170 so I change my advice definitely look at the r9 290! Ideally non reference but 4gb Vram and today they're still a very fast card!

If you are upgrading for the system listed in your signature, I would advise against it, as you already have a fairly balanced setup...getting graphic card faster than your 750Ti would not make much different as the performance will be held back by the CPU.

i would say inno3D or Zotac some reviews here

im defo upgrading lol eventually i will upgrade my mb and cpu to something better as well but not for a while,,,ive seen my cpu running the 960 and it performs better with it than the 750ti so it shouldnt be a problem :) plus with gpu intensive games it will defo make a difference i would have thought?

also does it really matter wether i go for a 2gb or a 4gb? i will only be gaming at 1080p max

Yes there would definitely be improvement during the not so CPU intensive moments, but when things get busy/chaotic (if you play online), your frame rate will still tank as it is your CPU that would be what's making you get low minimim frame rate, not your new graphic card.

Faster graphic card will allow you to use higher graphic settings and put on more eye-candy, but to improve the performance as a while, you'd definately will need to get a faster CPU.

at the moment im running the 750ti with a a8 5600k and on battlefield online im getting over 40fps average with everything on ultra :) my athlon x4 860k is going in my pc tomorrow so should perform even better as its a better cpu than the a8.

im going to overclock the 860k as well but not by too much,,maybe up to 4ghz or so,,,the end of this year i will upgrade my mb and cpu again and get something like the 970 which should be cheaper by then :)

In GPU intensive games expect the GTX960 to fair worse by next year - my GTX660 was under 10% slower than the HD7870 and now is sometimes nearly 40% slower.

The GTX960 is starting to do the same. The R9 285 was generally beaten by it but now the R9 380 is starting to move past it and is basically the same card.

You really need to get out of brand love if you are spending under £200,as long term you are wasting your money.

Plus if you really love Nvidia that much I would seriously not bother getting a GTX960 now.

Pascal will be out sometime this year.

But then £200 may not get him Pascal haha.

And knowing Nvidia they make it £20 cheaper for old cards. lol.

Return the CPU! The A8 5600K can be overclocked and it has the same CPU section as the X4 860K.

K indicates an unlocked multiplier.

The X4 860K is made from AMD A8 and A10 chips with no IGPs.

i am only thinking of getting the 960 as i will be upgrading at the end of this year the mb,,cpu and gpu again so it only really has to see me up untill then :) i like nvidia especially the shadowplay etc,,,i have owned a amd card although it was an old model 1gb i did like it,,,i know amd make the best cards in my price range bang for buck but i really would like to stick with nvidia really,,plus im not sure my psu would handle the extra power of a amd card?

yes i know,,its basically one of the top end a10s but without the inbuilt graphics which makes it faster than the apus,,,,well thats what ive gathered from all the reading up about it ive done? :)

If you really want Shadowplay fair enough but don't go overboard on the GTX960 cost.

Try not to go much over £150. Pascal should be out sometime this year as Polaris will be out in summer.

Plus overclocking your A8 CPU first.

The A8 and A10 are only different in IGPS not CPU sections. The X4 860k can be based on either of them.

The IGP on the A8 5600K will be deactivated due to you having a GTX750TI so I would overclocking that first.
