hi guys,

So whats the best stripe size fr a Raid0 array? does it even matter what size you choose or will your performance be better when you pick a large stripe size?

thanks!

If you Google it you will find for "all round" work its 16k-32k, 64k+ is getting up there to Video work.

It all depends on the Controler and what you use it for, most of my older Mobos were defaulted to 16k or 32k, the new Nvidia and Intels seems to feel the need for 128k-256k.

I personally use 16k if I Raid0 as its small enough to be fast but not too need HDD defragged every day like 4k :p

so say you want the best performance for gaming you would pick a 32K stripe size? I'm not using a separate RAID controller, just the controller on the mobo

Very interesting read there, cheers for the link.

I think my Stripe is set to 32KB, all seems happy atm, may try 16KB in the future if i upgrade to an extra disk.

I tried a few different stripe sizes some time ago, 16KB, 32KB, 64KB and 128KB, and found 32KB the best for all round "general" usage. :)
