What's the best tablet for an OAP?

My mother was gifted a Samsung Tab A7, and a case and screen protector (separate items). She's dropped it a couple of times and dropped stuff onto it as well. Works fine even now. Her previous tablet was an Apple IPad Retina (version 4 I think it was? Can't remember now) and that survived close to 10 years without any protection of any kind. The screen did crack (via a drop, right onto it's corner) in the last few years but nothing major (crack was only visible at an angle, screen was otherwise clear and functional still). It was the battery and power port that was failing that really caused that device to be abandoned in the end.

For the Samsung, I removed all apps from the main screen leaving only the two my mother would use; the gallery to view family photos and videos and the browser, that defaulted over to Youtube as its home page to make things easier. The IPad was not possible to do this with the version on that IPad. I still occasionally check it and see she's somehow managed to activate every other default installed app on the Samsung and close them down manually (same on the IPad), but otherwise, it works well.

So for the lower end, around £150 for a Samsung A7 Tab is a potential choice. Or into around £500 for an IPad. Although if you're concerned about drops and damage, the lower price might be the better option, especially if you need to replace every so often after "wear and tear" (ie, "drops") that happens.

Get something that's responsive. Tab s5e or s6/S7. Usually on sale.

In wouldn't get an A series tab. Too slow. Just spend a bit more.

Set up the homepage with all the apps and uninstall all the junk.

Any opinions on the Samsung s6 lite 10.4 inch?

Seems decent without breaking the bank? Seen one on clearence for £245...

It won't be used for anything stressfull but I do want it to have good touch input.

She has a basic android phone and a Windows pc.
The phone is literally just for texts and phone calls.
No intention or desire for interoperability, so an ipad isn't out of the question.

I'm thinking android or maybe an amazon. Not an I thing.

£300 budget, up to £500 for the a good device.

I'm an OAP (sigh) and I have one of these:

NEOCORE E2 10 inch Google Android Tablet PC (2K Screen, 2GHz, 32GB, up to 1TB SD Support, British Brand, HDMI, GPS)

£140 and it's perfectly fine.

It's more a case of familiarity. If she uses Android she will be used to things working a certain way and apps being similar.

My dad is 76 and has an Amazon Fire tablet HD10 which he loves. He uses email, Netflix and general browsing for things like recipes.

SO i'm gonna use the Samsung s6 lite 10.4 inch as a worst case option.... some reviews say it's a bit sluggish, which for a cheap/mid tablet I think is not the best thing. I'm also no fan of the galaxy tab A she had.. it was basicaly a piece of junk.

Fire tablet HD10 sounds interesting...but it sounds too cheap to be true.

Parents are both in their mid-late 60s.

They have an iPad which suits them fine.

Apple might be a bit more expensive but memes aside they just work and are pretty simple.

The issue I have with android, especially on the cheap end is that the hardware is garbage and you end up buying more frequently than with apple.

I'm slowly starting to think an ipad might be for the best in this scenario.

But they are not cheap.

What's the best bang for buck ipad?
