any suggestions or improvements to the below:-

backup everything using ccc or other utility to external disk, install leopard with erase and install, then use migration assistant to migrate data backin?

Personal preference. I'd personally back all my documents etc up, erase and install then reinstall apps and copy my documents back.. there's no chance of some nasty old config file causing trouble then :)

Yes. I prefer the zero out and selective restore from my backup dvds.

I have a .Mac account so that deals with my emails automatically.

I'll do a zero and migration assistant my Apps and user files back in, hopefully...

The assistant works ok with images made with CCC, right? :)

I back up everything to a FireWire HD, then run the OS X installer.

When you get to the Welcome screen I go up to the menubar and select "Utilities", then run disk utility and do a zero wipe.

Once it's finished I close Disk Utility then continue pressing "done" on the Welcome screens until it's finished.. then simply copy my data back from my FireWire drive.

so it's probably best to do a erase and install and migration assistant for apps and copy back documents. can i also copy over my iphoto and itunes folders and they will work? or would it be best to import again from scratch?

Whats the best way of getting mail over if not using the wizard?

Thanks

Go to Music : iTunes : iTunes Music and copy the entire folder.

Do the same under Pictures: iPhoto Library.

As for migration assistant.. use if it you need it, I always say if you can install all your Apps again then do it.

I hate messing around because the migration has imported a rogue folder somewhere and I'm having issues*

*not saying you will.

I want to do a full reformat but how do i go about migrating apps over, i just bought a serial for aperture so don't have the boxed version. Also i have creative suite that my Dad gave me but i dont have the disks.

How will i go about moving these apps over?

Does my backup with my .Mac cover apps?

Josh

Ok, everything is backed up, hopefully should get leopard tomorrow if not saturday.

Im going to zero the hdd and do a fresh install me thinks and then copy my data from the backup drive back onto the system.

:)

Can't wait.....

Some apps will "just work" if you copy the data from the Applications folder.

Not sure about BACKUP on .Mac, but it's worth loading it up (75% sure it will).

ARGH!!!

"Why does CCC keep locking up when it gets to 3.9Gb???!!"

I had the damn disk formatted FAT32... -_-

Now I need to make a backup of the stuff on there to format it into 3 partitions to put the 48Gb disk image onto it!

/slaps self.
